05'-06' plastics on a 2001?

Hey guys.. Just got a 2001 400ex and the plastic is pretty tore up. I was wondering if anybody has tried or if it's possible to put the new (05-06) plastic on an old 400. I realize the headlight's different and would probably just use the race hood with no headlight. Thanks..

I'm not 100% sure, but I think all you gotta do is get the mounting brackets for the 05-06 or make the brackets where they need to be.l Since i'm a do it yourself kinna guy I would fab up a new bracket someway with the one you got.

you only need different brackets if you use the 450r plastic, the 400ex fits with no modification, and as 02440 said the fronts will fit as will the rears but the rear is the exact same plastic, it was not changed, so you don't need to change it if it looks good, but in your case it sounds like you would want to so they match.

Thanks for all the help guys... How involved is swapping over to the 450R plastic? Is it just a matter of fabricating some brackets or does it get deeper than that?

Get the 06 Maier ones, not OME. They bolt right up to any 400ex. Doing mine as we speak. Here is a pic of someones else's.

Ya i know they are not Maier, Im using maier on my own quad. that was just a pic from someone who put 05 OME on his.

Will the Maier 06 plastic fit a 2001 with a Clarke 5.5 tank? I'd like to redo my 416 like the FST bikes, Orange and black, with some adapt style graphics. I think hondas should be Red, but that Orange & black is smokin.

You should be able to, just dont use the tank cover. I asume your not using your now anyway right.? That color combo would look awesome to.
