Alrighty then, are the '06 and '05 pipes the same?

Will an aftermarket '05 pipe fit on my '06?

If not, can I modify it to fit?

They are different. I have heard of people making a slip on work some how.

A slip on from an '04-05 will work on an '06. I have a White Brothers E2 slip on that is for sale that I made work on mine. All you would have to do is buy a new lead spacer that goes between the headpipe and silencer, at least I did for it to work with the HRC headpipe.
