i was just wondering how fast you guys think my 400EX goes. all it has on it is K&N filter and 22inch bear claws. I can keep up to cars on the highway (100ish km/h ish or 62ish mph) at half throttle.

A Stock 400 goes 68. if your quad is jetted right and with the bigger tires you might go a little over 70

i always thought smaller tires made it go faster maybe i thought wrong

no smaller tires give you more acceleration because the circumfrance is smaller.

theres no way his top speed is 80 they have about 1,000,000 threads about this some even include a handy top speed calculator, all you do is plug in your tire size and it tells you the top speed maybe sombody will post it for ya or do a search

Those calculators aren't accurate.
Something is usually off. Like the rpm limit, or the drive ratios aren't right.

Here's what the calculator you're speaking of says at the 400ex's rev limit, and 22" tires.

Granted on 22's w/ stock gearing you'll never see the rev limit on a stock motor.

i searched for the calculator and tried it in all different ways anf theres NO way that it is right. who here can do 30MPH in 1st gear on a 400 ex?

Theres no way a stock 400EX can pull the tires/gearing to run 80

if you leave the rev limit at i think 8300 it is pretty close

yeah, that screen shot looks like one from a post I made where we were talking about THEORETICAL top speed because someone was saying they were clocked doing 82 or something like that with 22's on the rear.

The numbers in that screen show stock gearing with 22's and an aftermarket rev box wound all the way out...

Here's the link

I'm tired of hearing about how fast is it on top speed. Its not abouyt top speed at all in most cases.

ain't that the truth...I ride trails mostly. I don't think I've ever made it out of fourth on a trail. Suspension, brakes, and torque are more important to me for trail riding.

I second that!! I just dont see why people really worry about this? And for a 400 EX to do 80mph thats impressive...I dont believe it but...ok

In most cases, yeah top speed doesn't matter as much as other factors. But in some desert races, top speed is EVERYTHING.

you guys are right my quad wont hit the rev limiter in 5th with these tall tires on it, it has a hard time just pullin it into the powerband. and ill tell you right now my 400 will ot do anywhere close to 80mph. in 5th at 3/4 throttle i can keep up to cars going 60mph so whoever said 80 must be dreaming. and i ride alot of trails too so im not all about speed i like torque too

Quads should not be trying to keep up with cars on the road anyhow.:D

The calculators don't factor in the gear ratio of the transmission, so how can it be acurate at all?
