I'm trying to remove my crankshaft to replace the main bearings. We have the left case off but we can't get the crank out of the right case. We've used a torch and some tapping to loosen it up but it hasn't worked so far.

Any suggestions on what else we could try?

P.S. we're on a limited budget so taking it to a shop is prety much out of the question.

Thx

you have to press out the crank

You should not need a torch...

put it in the oven on around 200 degree for an hour, then try tapping it, should pretty much fall out. I use an old pizza tray to make it easier to pull the motor in and out of the oven. Make sure to wear gloves to protect from heat!

if you heat it up youre gunna have to put all new seals in it in addition to your main bearings...

actually through the entire thing in the freezer over night then use the torch on the case around where the bearing is. the crank will come out with the bearing on it. then freeze the bearing and the crank, put the torch on just the bearing and it should slip off...

by the way if you need to tap on it use a rubber mallet and do so GENTLY.

press is the best but this works, if youve tapped on the crank even gently with a solid hammer then its probably out of true and or a shaft could be slightly mushroomed.

heat doesnt hurt bearings as long as you dont get em read or anything like that, and it wont hurt the seals unless you go to far, if you blister a seal replace it.

Thanks for all the help. The seals are all being replaced. The left side came off easy, with a little heat. And rubber mallet.Right side seems a little harder.Just wanta to make sure we were ok.We do have an OEM manual. We will be writing again when we try to put this thing back together.

GO HARD OR GO HOME

We've got the new bearings into the cases and are getting ready to put it together. But before we do I wanna ask about something. When we took the oil out to start tearing this thing apart we found that it had water in it. We are putting a new mechanical seal in but do you think thats it? Is there anything else we might be overlooking with the water in the oil and also just general tips on putting it back together? Do you guys have any tips for us?

Thx

the water pump seal is probally the reason for the coolant in the oil unless you had a combo head gasket leaking and a bad crank seal at the same time doubt that though. as for putting the motor back together I just put a new crank and all new bearings and seals in my motor for the first time with no major problems so If I can do it you can probally getting going as well. Good luck
