I have an 86 250r. I am now using an 87 frame. I've heard that the dog bone on the linkage is different on the 87 and it will mess with the geometry of the rear shock if I still use my 86 linkage.
Can any one confirm this for me?

it will alter the ride hieght slightly.... not a big deal. pink an choosecombos of shocks an linkages till u get it the way you like or get a rear shock with height adjustment.

Thank you. So if I just raise my ride height an inch or so I will probably be ok. I heard that it will take away from the suspension travel a little bit. Have you ever heard of that?. Thanks again for the help.

just depends on the setup you use 86 = longest shock shortest dogbone. 88 - 89 equal shortest shock longest dogbone. 87 is in the middle on both so yes some combos will loose a little travel and can end up at the same ride hite while other combos can gain travel at same ride hieght... though its something like a half inch difference so its not like going long travel or anything. some set ups do make it easier to leave a big dent in the silencer though.

Thanks again. I think i'm just going to raise it an inch or so and give it a try. Thanks for the info

As long as you are using your old 86 shock, and linkage parts with your new 87 frame, you will still have the same ride hight. The dog bone, and shock dimensions are what changed, not the shock, or linkage mount.

no, 85 and 86 had longer dog bones, 87-89 were shorter.

What Font is saying is he will have the same setup with the 87 frame as he had with the 86,providing he uses the linkage and dog bone from the 86.The shock mount on the frame didnt change and the swingarm is the same.It will not be any higher and have the same travel as before

though the early shock was longer than 88-89 ?.as well as the dogbone ?. any way i got a durable linkage , so you can lengthen to suit ........
