If the bike is stock, the first thing I would do is get an aftermarket exhaust and also aftermarket filter. I wouldnt worry about the rev box. And what kind of riding are you doing. Your gearing will have something to do with that.

dont get the Hrc kit.

Get a filter 50
jet kit 50
an after market cam 200
take the bafle out and put the end cap back on.( it looks even better then the HRc cap)
and and a higher comp piston if u want. 150

For $330 i think, get an adjustable CDi box like the Dyna tek and u can pick ur curves and get another 2000 Rpm

And dont just get a Hot cam. do some research before geting a cam.

why does everyone pay so much for jet kits. Go to the local store/dealer and get the jets you need for like 2.50 a piece and save some money. Don't piss it away on a jet kit you don't need

Is this an 06' or an 04'/05'? It matters for which mods I would suggest.

First get an air filter, take the lid off, get a pipe and if you have the money, HRC kit. Then rejet.

Here's my suggestions for waking-up the engine on a stock 04/05 TRX450R:

Airbox: Use the HRC lid, modify the original lid, or remove it all together.

Airfilter: Aftermarket filter of your choice. Aftermarket intake boots are also available.

Exhaust: Slip-on or full system of your choice.

Camshaft: HRC is fine (i.e. better than stock) but there are lots of other options. From the dyno testing and rider reports I've seen the HC stg 2 seems hard to beat for a drop-in, all-round performing cam.

Piston: Junk the stock (relatively) low-compression, cast piston and upgrade to something better. Honda should have but the 06's forged 12.0:1 piston in the TRX450R from the beginning IMO. Stick with the stock bore. It's likely that all you'll need to do is deglaze the cylinder--no machine shop needed. Stick to 12.0:1 or under and with a cam you're likely to be just fine on premium pump.

Appropriate carburetor jetting should go without saying. Steer clear of "jet kits" and use factory Keihin jets and needles.

I'm just guessing here--
Intake mods: $30 - $100
Exhaust: $250 - $550
Cam: $135 - $200
Piston: $175 - $275
Jetting: <$50
Gaskets/misc: $50

If your not ready to open the engine then skip the cam and piston but realize there is a lot more performance in there just waiting to be released...

Just my $0.02
