Who uses one, and what are some good brands besides camelbak?

I'm thinking about getting one, but I want a very slim one so it doesn't make me hot. Maybe one with the water right by my back so it cools me down a bit. Any suggestions?

Well it's ok if it doesn't cool me down, I just don't want a big bulky thing making me hot.

I have a camlebak i think 40oz. I out it on under my chest protector and run the line under my helmet strait into my mouth. I don't even notice it is there.

Some people drill a hole in the front of the helmet and put it through.

Some people just let it dangle and grab it at Check points.

I just hold the tube between the side of my cheek and teeth and when i need a drink I just squuez my cheek againts my teeth.

I love it, keeps you hydrated, my arms don't cramp as bad. (Weird huh) Also nice when you get roasted you can rinse you mouth.

i have the camel back classic. its very small and comfy. its got some bungee cords on the back to carry an extra shirt or somthing if you need it and a zipper compartment that about the size of a soda can. 30 bucks well spent.

I use one of the OG 40oz Camelbaks that I bought in '93 and a 70oz version from The North Face. You can buy add-on "bite tubes" that do not require any drilling of your helmet.

Okay, I ordered one and I have another question. Can I put Gatorade or SoBe in it?

08-09-2006, 09:49 PM
Yes but i heard its not good for you, I think it gives you cramps i read it somewhere

Gatroade is just fine. I have been drinking Gatorade since before it was sold in a bottled form and there was only two flavors (lemon lime and orange). Sobe gives me cotton mouth if I drink it will excersizing or riding (MTB, ATV, Dirtbike). I usually try to make sure my gatorade is semi-frozen (slushy) before I ride.

Just be sure to wash that camel bak out realy well as sugar gets in there and can mold easier than water...

Buy a cleaning kit for bladder. It will come with cleansing tablets, a hanger for the bladder and a swab for the tube.

Or you can keep it a 1/4 filled with water and freeze it, that way nothing will grow in it. Then when you use it you have a nice size chunk of ice in it already.

if u use gatorade mix it about 50/50 w/ wter.....makes it taste better. to clean it just fil it w/ water and add a little bleach. let it set for a few minutes then rinse it good

Well, I can't really use water unless I go buy drinking water because our well water tastes like ***. That's why I wanted to use Gatorade and SoBe.

Will I need to use the tablets after every ride?

Gatorade by itself is just fine as long as you rinse the bladder after using it. Sobe might be ok for you but it's too sugary for me and gives me cottomouth. If you keep the bladder clean and dry you will not need the cleaning kit. I normally store my bladder in the fridge so it does not mildew because I live on an ultra humid island. I was forced to buy the cleaning kit after I forgot to rinse the bladder for my 100oz MTB setup.

You said herb. lol thats great. here is the one that I have. It is an OGIO and I love it. It has an padded pouch for audio or video. It was money well spent. I also think the bladder is near 2 liters.

I bought a Thor one last year, i think it hold like 2 liters, but im not sure.... I got acouple few rides out of it.

Then i learned that i shouldnt keep the mouth piece in between my teeth while going through some whoops.

I havent had time to go buy another bladder so i just throw a water bottle or 2 in it and my phone, keys, wallet, and take a drink when we stop for a break.

If i was doing some endurance racing i would deffinantly go and buy another bladder so i could keep hidrated while racing. Good luck finding one they are a great investment.
