i was wondering whats the difference between a cdi box and a rev box?

In every ATV application I'm aware of they are synonyms. The rev limiter is a function of the CDI, not a stand-alone "box". The term "rev box" comes from the fact that almost all aftermarket CDI's have a higher rev limit than the stock boxes.
I guess you could say that "rev box" = aftermarket CDI with a higher rev limit.
