hello, my name is Zach,im 14, and have been ridding dirtbikes all my life, and have started to get a little bored with them. for the past few months iv been interested in a quad, all of my friends and family have them so im not neccesaraly new to them. i have 2 different bikes in mind, the Honda trx400ex, and the 450ex. i was wondering what you would suggest for me. what are the major differences in the 2? i relize power, but what are the others? better clutchs, drive train? also, which is the most reliable? if its any importance, im about 6'2, 140 pounds...thanks for reading and i hope you reply.

400EX! I'm 5'5" 180 lbs. and my 400 does the trick. It's not as much the hight thing between the 2 it's the weight. and reverse sure is nice.

wlee fist welcom to the sit. Ya both are very reliable quads but I think the best thing for you would be a z400 b/c its faster than a 400ex and not far off a 450 and a lil more up to date on technology than a 400ex. And if you wont to make 400ex keep up with a 450 it's a lot of $$$. idk if your getting a new quad or not but I think al the Z's have revers

i am 15 5'4 bout 170 pounds and i ride a 400ex it is a nice reliable quad that is good for almost anything. reliability brand wise hondas and yamahas bullet proof and will last forever with regular maintaining. suzuki is reliable but they have had some problems. 450s are fun but more sport that anything you can still trail ride and do that kind of stuff but it will take geting used to. going from quad to dirtbike and being 6foot2 know ahead of time quads are shorter. in quads my 250 ex is taller than my 400ex and my 400ex is taller than a 450r but they also geat wider the bigger the engien (sp) displacement. so you might feel too tall for a 450 quad but once you are able to open it up you wont feel that way anymore lol.

well hope this helped you a little bit i gotta go ride

just go with the 450 its not that much more than a 400 and u will spend 2x more trying to make it as fast as a 450.

my 06' has about 6" in th rear cuz I put a pro armor skid plate on. If your going to trail ride deffinetely buy skid plates. they will save you agravation later.

450 without a question. The only things that the 400 truly has on the 450 is that the new 400EXs come with reverse, and have generally more reliable STOCK engines. The 450 is not only a faster quad, but it handles much better, and is IMO easier to get around on. If you are tight on money, the 400s aren't a bad choice because of the cheap prices you can buy them for now (Decreasing resale value), but in the end, the 450 is the way to go nowdays...... when buying a new quad at least.

I beilieve the KFX 450 does, but that is the only one that I am currently aware of which comes with reverse. Keep in mind that it is a new, basically untested (By public) bike, and will most likely have some problems first time around.

LOL now i wish i had gotten a 450r but i think that would have been too big of a step up from a 250ex but these 450s are getting more popular every day i have been seeing less and less 400s or 300s and 250s being ridden:(

but o well this just meens more toys for sale for less:p

don't get the z. they r less reliable, more tippy, don't handle as well, and they don't have as much bottom end. the only plus is liquid cooling. trust me i have rode both.

unless ur racing u won't lose much ground to the 450s. i ride trails and can keep up just fine with them.

Yeah, I've ridden the z400 and own a 400ex. Definitely a honda(400ex/450r) over the z400. The z400s just seem a lot tippier...like they have a shorter wheelbase or somethin...not sure if they do or not though.

The Raptor 700 is what I would get if I was you.

Yeah, if you get one of them you don't have a carb to worry about...all EFI...
