ok what car would be better performance wise? A 97-99 GSX Eclipse with AWD,turbo, 2.0 liter 4 cylinder DOHC engine, or a 00-05 Eclipse GT with V6 3.0 ohc supercharged engine?

Uhh...

The GT. No replacement for displacement.

What motor is in the GSX? If it's the 4G63 then that is the car of choice. Displacemnet means very little when you have a "weak" motor.

The awd setup will get more power to the ground and the 4cylinder bay is not cramped so installing upgrades is not an issue.

the gsx is stock, so simply, yes it has the 4G63(but it's actully the 4G63T version since the turbo). And what do u mean when u say a "weak" motor?

The GSX has much more potential than the GT and it is LIGHTER. The US got the choked version of the 4G63. My '96 EVO IV is rated 70hp higher than the '99 GSX and it will pick up 20~30whp just by adding a larger downpipe, test pipe, larger exhaust, free flowing air filter and by remapping the ECU for the changes. An additional 15~90 hp can be found by installing an EVO VIII or IX turbo, larger injectors and pumping up the boost. This is with not internal mods whatsoever. The GT will require pistons, rods, porting and more just to get into the 300whp range.

So get the GSX and then add the normal upgrades. Free flowing exhaust, free flowing downpipe, test pipe if possible and air cleaner. You will need to get the ECU re-mapped. Better suspension will help with keeping the power planted and so will a stronger clutch.

alright there is a place in illinios called Exotic Motors and they sell 2G eclipses for around 13g but the high retail on kbb and nada is around 11g. i called them and asked them why are they selling for more and they replied, We specialize in selling these rare cars that are stock and in great condition. do u think they are pulling my leg or what? they just sold a 98 for 13,900 estimated in excelent condition on nada and kbb at 11g.

my vote is for the pre 2000 eclipse. we have 2 talon (same as eclipse) and are getting a third, no comparison. the 4g63 turbo charged is the way to go. a local guy here builds DSM's and he finished a '98 eclipse GSX DRIFTER! thats right AWD drifter the thing runs somwhere around 750hp and its daily driver. the thing is nuts i've seen it doing awd doughnuts in the walmart parking lot.

pretty sure it is a 4G63 motor, besides the second letter in the mitsu name is what the car ran on, G for gas, so 4"G"63,but the thing that confuses me is if it is a 4G63 motor or a 4G63T, does anyone know, because the gsx is turbo charged and is called a 4G63, but the turbo charged varriant is the 4G63T, which is also turbo, since the 4G63 is turbo is it a 4G63T??????

here is a link to most of the mitsu engines where they are explained........http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Sirius_engine#4G63

the 420A is non-turbo, the 4g63 is turbo. i had a 97 with a 420A. it was a good looking car but not a good driving car. first off no-offense to any mitsu fan/owner. they are not the most reliable cars out there, i had my fair share of problems with mine in the 6 mo. i owned it. the only eclipse i would ever even think of getting again is a 95-98 GSX. i figure if im going to get an unreliable car it might as well be fast and handle like its on rails. my 97 was a pain to drive. mainly because it was lowered, it was lowered WAY too much. the front bumper sat just high enough for my to put a 2x4 under it. that was it. these car dealerships that are selling them for more than KBB are right in there asking price. KBB probably says a 98 GSX should go for around 3000, you wont find any worth buying for less than 6 and thats still cheap. its all supply and demand, every young kid wants an eclipse and theres not alot of 2gs out there so the ones that are, are going for alot. as for your comparison the GSX is going to be better, it will probably be faster than the v6 and will spank it in the turns. the 2g GSX is the only eclipse out there worth buying.

Definately the GSX. AWD will make it handle and launch like it's on rails, and they are so, so fast.

Besides, they are so much sexier than the ugly new ones, and I'm talking this generation and last. Both are ugly.
