I dont know about a shoot out, but I'll give you my exp with the Polaris Ranger

My unit brought 8 6x6 Rangers to Iraq, They've been driven every day for over a year, and never broken in properly, grossely over loaded, and abused, we've not had a single failure.

I've towed blackhawks with them (yes, like the helicopters) we welded up special pintle hitches for military trailers, and towed just about everything from light cart and generator sets to aircraft around. Some of these things totaling well over 10 times the polaris's weight.

They've had like two or three oil changes in full year, run on crappy army mogas, and we've not had a single failure. I dont know how you could abuse these things any more than we have. I've spent days playing in the mud, driving behind stuck strykers and LMTV ruts, and blazing the gravel, in all terrain, they've held true. And other than some cosmetic damage, and one with a few bullet holes in it, they've done perfect.

I love rhinos and I am thinking of getting one. I have done alot of research on them. My buddie had a rhino they only go like 35 40 mph. If you put a CDI box on them (Scary fast CDI) for like $300 they will come alive. This is due to the rev limiter being so low. They will do about 50ish after that. A pipe and airfilter then will do 55mph. They make superchargers for them and they do about 72mph with 70 HP. They are excellent hill climbers as well. I am just waiting to see what Yami comes out for 2007

Because the rhinos are a lot better.

Who wants a bench seat anyways?

it depends on what you want to do with it. If you want one for fun and duning, then by far the rhino. for work on the ranch or farm I'm not sure. I had a pull off at the London, KY GNC last year between my Rhino and Skyler Stewarts Toyota pickup, it was a tie until the strap broke. I also pulled Cody Miller with his DIESEL kubota and that was a basic tie also.

ak_stick
08-08-2006, 01:57 PM
somthing about that sounds fishy.

I dont think a 4x4 is going to be able to hold its own vs a 200+hp v-6 pickup. Nor do I think youd have much of a tie vs a tractor. That just doesnt sit right.

Depends on the year, our 6x6s have the option to lock into awd or not. the 4x4 has a manaul throw lever for 2x4/4x4 lock

Yeah, it was a 2X4 Isuzu (I thought it was a Toyota) That is the truck that Skyler puts in the back of his rig while he travels so he has something small to drive (like taking a dingy to shore from your yacht:D ).

yeah I should have known better after dragging black hawks (16K lbs) up and down the road with our polaris... I dont think they'd take a 4x4 pickup, but thats still a heck of a load for ATV

The Rangers are two big and wide for trail riding but would be great in the dunes or any wide open places. For trails, go with the Rhino or the Prowler.

I built my own using a Honda Foreman 450ES.
Here's a pic of it before I finished it up. It now has full fender coverage, 27 inch mud lites, and a 2" lift.

Rhinos are faster and they look better. Besides, I'd rather have a bucket seat than be able to seat one more person.

Stock vs Stock Rhinos are slower but put a CDI on the Rhino and they are faster.

I heard that the Artic Cats are suppose to be sweet. I haven't had the chance to drive one yet. How fast they go?

Whats the prowler? I haven't heard of that one yet. One of my friends has the arctic cat one, but I don't talk to him much and IDK what he thinks of it, but they look like they are a decent machine, and I think they look the best.

Nope Yer Wrong there. Rangers are already as fast as they go. a CDI does nothing for them.

A rhino is governed at 35mph CDI box gets you aroung 50 - 55 MPH

If you would have read the thread...you would have noticed STOCK vs STOCK a Rhino with CDI will beat a Ranger. A STOCK Ranger with a CDI won't beat a STOCK Rhino with a CDI. You have alot more mods then a CDI Box. I bet you I can beat your Ranger without touching the engine on a Rhino? Any bets?

Obviously you think you know everything. Did you just cut and paste this list from a parts site? Everything I left in your list has absolutely nothing to do with improving the power of your quad. I don't know of anyone that lists bearings, seals, o-rings, or washers as mods. Probably because they aren't!

Reguardless, all you have to do is remove the rev limiter. The Rhino has a very restrictive rev limit which keeps it from going above 40MPH.

Therefore, in true form the Rhino beats the Ranger.

04raptor
08-11-2006, 08:05 PM
cant you over rev the motor if you take off the rev limiter

ELewandowski
08-11-2006, 08:36 PM
get a prowler, tighter turn radius, more clearence, 10" front and rear travel, 1500 lbs tow capacity, 660lbs rear cargo load capacity, and it looks better.

if i was going to buy one it would be a rhino.... ive never seen any of the others in action bcuz nobody here has them really. Nothing like seeing a rhino flying threw the dunes, hill climbing, jumping, just mobbing around its awesome.

unless honda made an UTV ;)

my best friend has a rhino and it will go any place u wish. we almost had it up to the seats in water the other day. and we jump it all the time. plus it hill climps great.(it has a set of itp 589)

my uncle has a ranger and it just flat outs sucks!! it handle near as good, it wont go anywere in the mud and lacks power.

wow i was so surprised when i saw one in the dealer showroom the otherday.... i couldnt believe how big they actually are....they're huge! it's so cool they're just like a little pickup truck.

firefighterjosh
08-13-2006, 09:23 PM
For my bet they make a Supercharger kit for a rhino Stage one kit around 4k you get aroung 70Hp and 70 - 75 mPH and it is a stock engine. Eshaulst and everything!

I seen a Prowler today. OMG they are so so so sweet! Didn't get to drive it though:(

I say Rhino or prowler just drive them and see what you think.

I seen a ranger today and they are likea small ranger, they are too big

FDO493
10-17-2006, 10:29 PM
It would be cool if we could take parts from the big three and make one bad utv. Face it; they all have at least one thing better than each other.

If the ranger got rid of the struts in the front I think you would see allot more of them in competition.
The ranger can be fitted with a sportsman 700 ecu for a couple hundred more rpms. (The sp800 ecu does not work as well on the xp700)

"Too big" We live in a world that revolves around "Bigger is Better" If a Rhino will fit, a Ranger will fit also

I look forward to upcoming rhino hunts!
