I'll spend $0 more on my 400EX except for manditory repairs and maintenance. Since my last engine rebuild, my "upgrade" budget goes straight into my "new quad" savings. Once I have a newer machine I'll spend on upgrades again but my EX is a sinking ship...

i have maybe 3800 all together (with cost of machine) in manditory repairs. it's up for sale as soon as it's broken in, im one very not happy 400ex owner, the day it sells i'm going to set off fireworks.

My first name is Averell.

By "sinking ship" I just mean that my EX is never going to be what I want it to be. Sticking with it is a loosing battle (for me). It's a good quad and I do like it but the costs involved in raising it's performance beyond where it's already at is better spent towards a newer quad.

In the past I've gone down the road of doing mod after mod, spending gobs of money trying to keep an older machine on the leading edge. For some people in some situations that's a fine choice; I just don't want to do that anymore.

the cost of my machine was $3,800 plus all my mods is $2,200 but im gonna get alot more hopefully after i buy a car im gonna buy a Roll Design front and rear suspenion package and that will be another $4,000 and thats gonna be about it.

where to start.
Bike: bought for $2500 with a CF hood, 426 BB, Cam, skids, holeshots, graphics, gripper seat.
I added:
Pipe:200
Cam:free
nerfs:200
K&N:40
fat bars: 80 +40 for clamps=120
+1.25 swinger:350
Shocks:350
plastic:200
Other parts for my current rebuild:600
paint:$50

all in all only about $4300 in mine the way it sits, including buying the bike. so for what i have i don't think i am doin too bad. but i am probably gonna do a major suspention upgrade soon so that will be around another 1500-2000 in it, but for $6000 in what i got it will be well worth it, still about the same price as a new 450.

Paid $4,500 with most of the expensive stuff done already.
Estimated prices:
440 kit $225
Magura Hydraulic Clutch $250
Lonestar Chrome Swingarm $900
Lonestar Chrome A-Arms $900
Lonestar Chrome Steering Stem $350
Lonestar Dual Row Bearing Carrier $300
Lonestar Ant-Fade Lock Nut $200
Lonestar Chrome Axle $410
Douglas Ultimate Billet Beadlocks $200-$225 a piece
Wave Rotor $80
Stainless Steel Brake Lines $90
Ohlin's Shocks F&R $ 1200
White Brothers E-Series Pipe $500
Oversized Alum. Oil Tank $225
Alum. Air Box $200

Remember, I'm estimating these prices from what I've seen in magazines and the web and I know I forgot a few things but you get the idea. The guy I bought it from said he had either $12,000 or $14,000 into it. I don't know if that included his purchase price or not. It probably does.

I added:

Edelbrock carb $500
Big Gun Rev Box $90
Profire Coil & Hotwire $175
IMS Footpegs $180
IMS Heel Guards $135
Ceramic Coating on exhaust $135

If my math is right that comes to $1,215.
Paid $4,500 for quad.
Total without maintenence is $5,715.

i will not put too much money into any of my machines, no more then exaust, skids, nerfs and anything else needed to keep it running. Once my 450 is payed off im getting a dirtbike or a streetbike.

Total i will have around 6500.........
