Can you paint stock wheels? I have got some black nerfs and a black bumper ordered for my 450 r and i think that black wheels will be good but can't lay down the bucks for them yet ... I am stationed in Qatar right now, so dont know if they have a powder coating place around but I can get them painted easy enough .....

If you are going to paint, you will need to put several coats on. I would even put a clear coat of rattle can on there as well. Even then, it will still chip.

Thanks 'bama ...

yup, thats what i figured .. i will only need them to look ok for 4-5 months while i save up for the hipers .. i was not sure what would happen spraying right on to that scuffed aluminum - reckon it might peel at all?

I'm not sure. Send a PM to Nowukno. He painted the inside of his rims black and left the lip alone. It looks sick!

If you do them with a rattle can it will chip the first time they touch anything.;)

The right way is sandblast what you want painted, then put a coat of epoxy primer on it.Shoot the color you desire, clear it.........
You should have no problems,
Another one is,
wipe deglosser on area to be painted,
scuff down,
spray a coat of "Bulldog"Adhesion promoter.(awesome stuff)It comes in a spray can and can be purchases at any auto body paint supply store. It makes paint stick to anything.
Give it a scuff,
shoot a coat of epoxy primer,
Shoot color desired,
clear it,
Between each step, wipe the surface down w/ditzo(precleaner)
You can basically buy all this stuff in a can for about 40-50 bucks
If you have access to a HVLP spray gun even better. But its gonna run you alittle more in material. But you wont have to worry,
We did my bros toyota 4x4 that he wheels alot in,and is driven in the Chicago winter weather w/all the salt and slush. Its been 4 years now and it looks like we did it last week. The only thing is where he got a dent in the rim from wheeling, and even then its still not even peeling at all.Thats what worked for us,just my 2cents good luck w/your project........

get primer, gloss black paint and clear coat,
also i used masking tape and pinstriping tape that you can get for like $2,
taped off the edge and put two coats of black and one or two of clear depending on what you want,
i just did the backside all black with the same coats as the front,
apply that to all four wheels.
also i didnt sand my wheels alot just a little or none at all because they wont need it if you do primer

it turned out awesome just do nice and even layers and more than two if you want but i am going to the dunes next week and i will tell you how they hold up in the sand but im not expecting much because it is just spray paint.
