Kirt13 was picked.

Pappy

He is now deployed, so I have no idea when he will be back, but his parts will be awaiting him:p

Pappy
08-04-2006, 04:01 PM
Frame completed.

He got this off ebay, a stock frame, I think he said LSR had done all the work on it. The seller had it powdercoated blue, and coated everything...including the stem bearing area:p

The frame had some serious scale rust under the blue pc, but I treated it so hopefully he will have a lot of time before it becomes an issue.

Pappy
08-04-2006, 04:02 PM
One step closer for him

Prey
08-04-2006, 04:13 PM
pappy, i know you have already done that frame, i have a spare 250R frame (88 i believe) in very good shape, i would be willing to donate it for the cause.

i know you said that you treated the rust, but if you think a better condition frame would be better to work with, i will donate mine.

especially for any person servering our country and having their new LTR stolen :grr:

if you want it, PM me, i will even pay the shipping

Does he have any plastic for it yet?I have a full set of red 250r plastic with a nice desert seat on it I'll donate as well.I bet if we get enough members to donate something here and there we can get this guy a complete quad.I also have some other odds and ends for a 250r lying around so just let me know if you need something Kenny.

Here is a pic of the fenders.I think the rear is Maier and the front is Honda....that is why the red is a little different shade. There is no cracks in it anywhere. If he wants it,it's a gift to him from me.

Pappy
08-04-2006, 05:22 PM
I am sure he will apreciate the offers. The rust is of no concern as far as weakening the frame...its very strong.

Jason, I know he has black fenders but I will pass along your offer.

No problem.I realize with all the nice pc work that these fenders wouldn't look the best on there.I also have some stuff like brake stays and rotors, etc so just let me know if he needs any of it.

I know he has front spindles and calipers because I have them...but thank you for the offer!!!

Pappy
08-07-2006, 06:34 PM
calipers and mounts were done Molycoat, it serves a purpose in that it helps release heat, so not only do they look good there is actually a benefit to boot

Pappy
08-07-2006, 06:35 PM
I Moly'd the spindles also to keep the colors muted

very sweet. the r will be awesome when its finished

jrspawn
08-07-2006, 09:49 PM
Pappy, can you moly coat in colors? Or just the black?

Thank you
Justin

Pappy
08-07-2006, 09:50 PM
They have a few color options but flat black works best for this type of part. the coloring is just a benefit of what it does to help the metal fight rust and corrosion and it permanetly lubes the part.

jrspawn
08-07-2006, 09:55 PM
Would it hold up on sprockets and possibly a swingarm pivot bolt?

Thank you
Justin

Pappy
08-07-2006, 10:00 PM
Pivot Bolts, Sleeves, Sprockets...any wear item can benefit from it. Pistons, Cams etc.

Pappy
08-07-2006, 10:07 PM
And it helps metal release heat so cylinders can be done also

Pappy
08-07-2006, 10:40 PM
head and cylinder is $125

The clutch basket can be done in a oil retaining coating that disipates heat but attracts oil

Yes, I have done several sets of pistons for race cars , pulling trucks and quads

Transmission gears can be done also and can raise the rockwell score 1 or 2 points

They are done more often then most realize, and you usually have the option of ordering it coated from the piston supplier. Some pistons have 3 different coatings on them the dome, skirt and underneath can be coated seperatly to help each area with a specific coating. I usually avoid pistons because I just know sooner or later someone will blame the coating for a grenaded engine:p

Ive been doing this process for over 3 years now...its great:p Infact the new valve covers on the 450R's are coated inside with a oil shedding coating so oil returns to the head and valve train faster.

Chicksdigme423
08-07-2006, 11:04 PM
what are the benefits of coating a piston... less friction?? have you done anything for any pulling trucks or race cars in western pa?

Pappy
08-07-2006, 11:05 PM
Heat disapation, oil retention and oil sheding, domes can be coated to help aid in preventing detonation etc.

I am not sure where alot of the trucks pull at, I geuss they have a circuit they run.

Mx_523
08-07-2006, 11:08 PM
Serious question. Can you coat rings?

Well, I went home for a couple of days last weekend. I saw all of those parts at my friends shop. I can't wait to start this project. I've got almost everything except for swinger and axle. I will definately start a tread on the project when I start it. I'm starting to get low on funds, so the parts I'm missing will take a little time to buy.
THANKS PAPPY!!!!!

Kirt13

I still need the small parts. Brackets for everything like fenderds and rediator, rubber parts. I have most of the actual parts, but no way to attach them. I've found it really hard to find this kind of stuff. Does any body have these little parts that I can buy?
Thanks for your help!!!

If you make a list of what you need I'm sure we can come up with some of it for you. I know we've all got alot of extras laying around so be specific.

I know I've got a radiator res. laying around, I don't have any extra mounts though. I will hunt up some mounting hardware for the res though. I'm going to throw in some extra goodies, if you can't use them sell them or trade for something you can. PM me your address, parts will be free. Box will probably go out Monday when I return from Ohio so if you think of anything else post it up.

I definately will. I'm going home for 10 days in about 2 weeks. I'll get pics of all my parts. Pappy said that the parts he coated will be their by then so I'll have pics of everything. My friends are really getting on to me about starting the project. I'm starting the assymbly then with my friends. It's gonna be a group effort.
This quad is going to be a really nice project....no cut corners.

Just want to say thanks to everybody again for all of the help.

Well, I'm pretty close to starting the actual build-up now. I'm only missing a few things. I don't want to start the build-up until I have all of the parts. I just got a axle and tank. I also got the petcock and mounting hardware for the tank. The only thing I am now missing is the rear brakes, front brake resi, swinger, sprockets and chain. I'm still looking for an aftermarket +2 swinger. I know that I could get a stock swinger for pretty cheap, but I want this project to be 100% aftermarket. So far everything is.
I'm headed for home in about 2 weeks. I'll put some updated photos in here of my project then.

I got it!!!!! I figured out how to make the pics BIG.
Take a trip to the "TRX250R info" page under "Extreme Quad Makeover ProgressReport".
This was the first time I have ever worked on or ridden a 250r. This project was very frustrating without having anything to look at. Also, ALL of the parts are aftermarket which was also a challenge. It turned out great though. I never thought that I would be able to build something like this from scratch.
