Whats up guys. I tried doing a search on a-arms, shocks, swing arm and can't find what I'm looking for.

I have a stock 400ex. I'm starting to get into MX riding(24/7). Now the question.

I know its better to get new a-arms and shocks. Thats what I plan on doing now. I seen companys make standard and long travel a-arms.

Kits i seen for sale.
+2W+0F / +2W+1F / +3W+0F / +3W+1F.

I was wondering which arm kit should I get. Whats the difference between standard and long travel? I'm a big guy(230). I been doing jumps for sometime now and as everybody knows stock can't handle a big guy for jumps.

Also which shock company you guy recomend? OHLINS, ELKA, PEPS, WORKS, ISHOCKS, and etc.

Last 1. Now For the rear swing arm. Should I get a stock lenght or +1 / +2 swing arm.
Please if you guys can help me out on picking out good brands of parts. I don't plan on going cheap on my parts. Sorry for all these noobie questions. Thanks in Advance.

LT, +3 with 4-1 rims, any of the top brand shocks up front, any top brand rear swing arm stock length and a good axle.

I havent really liked many of the extended swing arms with or without + forward arms, but its personal preference. If you stick to the top brands of components you will end up with the ride your looking for.

There are just so many good choices on the market that one is almost as good as the other these days:p

+3+0 long travel arms, elka Elite shocks, LSR +1 swinger, LSR +4 axle.

LSR sells kits with Elka shock and their Arms. i would go withh LSR or Roll Design kit with Elka Elite shocks.

get the +1 swingarm if u intend on doing a bore job on ur bike. otherwise leave it stock. i u bore it, i would recomend the hot rods 460 kit, or the sparks 465 pure power kit. good luck. and send us some pics when ur all done :)

that would be even better. i would go with the crf 450. out of the box those motors r pushing 50 hp, and they have a very even power spread with alot of torgue off the bottom

Not true you can put on std. travel arms and get more travel than stock.

Wouldn't the tranny from a dirt bike motor be alittle weak for a quad?

Why would you think that ? there are so many people with 400ex hybrids with dirt bike engines in them and they dont have any problems with the trannys.

You can get more travel using standard travel a-arms by using aftermarket shocks.

Elka claims 10.2'' of travel with stock a-arms and their standard travel shocks and if you use +2 standard travel a-arms with their shocks they claim 11'' of wheel travel for a 400ex.

So now i have my arms. (+3+1StdT) Now i looking into getting a new swing arm. What length does it need to be? I have seen LSRacing MX swing arm recommends (+1-1/4). But as i looked at there arms. They don't sell a (+3+1) A-arms. I know the sell the (+3+0LT)(+2+1StdT) So will i need the swing arm a little longer then (+1-1/4), because of my (+3+1) A-arms?

that pro-trax set-up is really good if you want to go above and beyond i would go with roll design products if you have the cash get the roll design lobo 2 a-arms get a RPM or LSR axle and a +1 1/4 roll design swingarm then get a elka LT linkage w/ a dual rate rear and quadrate piggy back comp, rebound, ride height adj or you could go with custom axis those 2 shock brands IMO are the best on the market, i forgot about the fox evols they are also very good
