hmm how bad are you talking about? buy a duramax and throw a superchip in it and get 17-20 mpg or buy a smaller truck.. unless you have something else to haul your stuff around..

imports are the best on gas

so if you say no imports then i guess you would rather pay for gas more often

i've driven one of these. they should get more credit than they do in my oppinio. also look in to a late 90's honda prelude. cheap/quick/ and fairly quick.

My buddy seriously considered buying a 2004 mustang GT brand new, but he ended up going with an 04 F150. The only reason he even looked at the GT stang is because highway mileage was 29!!! There is no way me or my buddy would ever get that with the way we drive, especially in a GT mustang.

Buy yourself a 2003 S-10 with the 2.2L 4-cyl/5-speed and 10k miles like I did. Last summer I traded my Silverado Z71 in on my wife's brand new Grand Caravan and assumed the driving responsiblity of her Grand Prix GT. I quickly realized that while I was happy with the increase in MPG it completely sucked no longer having a truck. I specifically bought a standard cab, 4-cyl/5-speed for gas mileage but can still throw 99% of what I need to haul in it. Granted, you aren't getting anywhere fast but for the last 3 tanks of gas I've averaged 26mpg in city driving. But, I never beat the piss out of it because it's pointless so I just take it easy.

ya NO gt mustang gets 29 mpg not a chance it can get low to mid 20's on the highway ONLY ! my buddies got an 04 and on a 700 mile road trip it did get 23. So thats that. back to the trucks I have an 04 duramax diesel with a bd programmer and I drive 60 miles a day if I go straight to work and right back home (some city some highway). last tank was 21.8 mpg :D truck is phenominal on fuel. on my last road trip it got close to 23. LOve the truck! great fuel mileage. and it moves out! lets just say my buddy thought something was wrong with his car after we lined up.

fill her up... clear your little trip thing... drive her around and run the tank empty... fill her up again... write how many gallons it took to fill her up... divide it by how many miles you have drivin... (ex. 259 miles divided by 24 gallons = 10.791 ~11)

if i'm worng someone tell me... i think thats how you do it?!?!
