i just got my 01 300ex and i was wondering what are some good things to check on this quad, like after or before a ride?

if its an 01 check this stuff now
check the rear bearings by lifting it off the ground by the swing arm and see if the axle wobbles..if it does..you just spent 30 bux
the brakes,
the front bearings,
the air filter. take it off make sure there isnt any oil blowblack
exhuast bolts are tight..if they aren't you'll blow a gasket.
make sure there isnt any play in the hubs on the rear axle.
go over the frame with a fine tooth comb..look for rust spots it could be a sign of a broken frame.
Rev up the motor and watch the exhuast, is it blue, black, white (you have air cooled..no white smoked for you) if it is you might have some engine probs...

Check this stuff daily :
Tire pressure (4-5 psi is good)
make sure your skid plate isnt smashed against your sprocket.
check your oil frequently on old motors they get hungry for stuff other than gas.
wash it after each ride...spray water on your tires make sure they arent leaking...relube your chain after that.
look for missing bolts/nuts they do fall off.

the EX quad is pretty much indestructible anyways....
