So i'm looking to update one of our combines, the 9600, and trade up. Figured since you guys were so good at giving girlfriend help this evenging, you could help me out. Looking at 9610's and 9650 STS. If I could find a SHARP 9610, i'd go with that, or should I go ahead, bite the bullet and jump on the STS bandwagon?

Not sure if your serious at all on this thread, but ive got nothing better to do tonight:D

If you are into the straw business at all, i would recomend staying with a walker style maximizer machine(9000 series) and possibly CTS series 1. The wlakers do a much better job with straw. The STS rotor machines do an over better job in my opion, but end up cracking or breaking the straw stem. You can find alot of the older 9000 series maximizers pretty cheap now days, but most have ALOT of engine and separator hours, grain bins rotted, elevators rotted, bearings, augers, elevaotr chains and feeder house chaines worn, etc...... which adds up. The 50 series STS combines are also very big in the used market right now and are very good machines. They changed alot including the rotor design. Which you will be able to up your grounds speeds over the older wlkers. Also depending if your gonna go to a newer head, Im guessing if you had a 9600 you probably had a 920 or 925 grain head, if you were to switch to the F series heads(925f,930f, etc...) you have the options of contour master and automatic header heighth control, no more old dial a matic boxes. With the contor master and AHC they are potentiomiters that will allow the head to float vertically and horizontially, niced setup for hilly conditions. One thing that im now to fond of on the STS is the shoe grain auger bearings, on the older maximizers they are easy to replace, crawl under the feederhouseand do the right there, 5 of them. The STS, you have to sqeeze in between the frame and Hydro housing, a Very tight and uncomfortabel job, and unfortuenetlly most of the time the bearing need to be replaced annually. There were alot of mods that we had to do to the STS's when they first came out, but any of the ones for sale should def have the mods done being that the mod dates are out of date. If you look at any of the STS's make sure you pop off the rotor covers, plastic panles, east to remover and look over all of the paddles and rear tines on the rotor and make sure you go over the concaves, there were problems with them. I could go on and on and on, lol. I actually just quit from Managing one of the locations of the largest Deere dealer corporations on the coast, and one of the largest n the country. Anymore questions feel free to shoot:D

My vote initally goes to the XLR but that's a little pricey. In lieu of that I'd go with the CTS-V:macho
