i have decided to get back into quads and im going to pick up a new 450r some time this week. my last quad was a 440ex with a full yoshi system, hot cam stg2, edlebrock carb, little bit of porting and high comp piston. it ran strong and i was really happy with the power. i hear people compairing the 400ex to 450s all day and i know they cant really be compaired. but should i have about the same amount of power out of stock R as i did with my moded 440? i have not ridden a 450r yet so im not sure what to expect. im mainly looking for a trail bike that has some decent torque.

these bikes are torque monsters so you will love it. I would say your going to be looking at about the same amount of power on a bone stock 450. You may have less high-end than your 440, just depending on what compression you were running, but you should have way more torque with alot better throttle response and an all around better handling, feeling and riding machine. Trust me, you will love it!

After you uncork the factory crap, like the airbox lid and exhaust baffle, it should feel good after a rejet. If your 440 had something like a 12-13:1 piston in it you might be dissapointed in the power of the older 04/05 450r because it used a lower 10.5:1 compression than the new 06/07 450r running 12:1.

Friend's 440:
Whitebros cam
Wiseco 12:1 piston
Head decked to make 13:1
Porting, DMC, Edel 39mm, Whitebros rev box
Bigger valves, better springs
Some automotive coil, 50,000 watts or whatever, huge spark gap

My 04 450r:
12.25:1 CP
CRF 02 cam
Portwork
KW Springs and stock mm valves
Pulse Charger exhaust
UNI filter, stock carb

Up compitition hill, I couldn't seem to get through the woops as well as him that day but I can catch him, pass him, and leave a good 5-6 bike lengths between us every time. Plus after we fool around, he needs to cool down and I can keep racing other people. So it all depends on how bad *** your 440 was, and what year 450r you get.

Sorry about the bragging, finally beat all my friends after being laughed at for having a warrior, then a slower new quad. Muwhaha
