After a five week break from racing, it was time to get back in action. It has been over two months since the ITP Quad Cross series has visited Glen Helen, and all of the riders where in for some changes. With the dirt bike national coming up, there are many changes to the track, which most of the riders didn't seem to mind.

However when you think of So Cal in July you think of hot dry weather, but that was not the conditions this weekend. It rained from about 4 in the morning on Sunday until about ten. All of the riders where dreading on seeing the track, because the day before it had already been very muddy.

And Muddy it was, most of the riders only did a lap or two in practice and then came off. But even with that short amount of time, you could still not tell who the riders where.

Even the rhinos where having some problems dealing with the mud.

There was even a point where the fog got so bad the spectators could hardly see the track, and we where all just praying for the sun to come out.

But that was not going to get these racers hopes down.

Christy McGuffin gives us a thumbs up with her broken thumb in a cast and all. She could not even fit her glove on, but was still out there racing anyways.

Here is the new tower that is being built at Glen Helen. They are in hopes of having is done by the dirt bike national, but we will all benefit from this larger, and nicer tower.

It was Dustin Nelson who was out front for the pro class for the first moto.

quadchick01
07-31-2006, 05:22 PM
But this race was about riding smart, and using your head. What line you choose could mean whether you won or lost a race.

Dustin Nelson found this out when he went into one of the corners and sunk in the mud. By the time he got out he was now in the fourth spot.

It was Tj Dietrich out front. Followed by Jeff Spooner, and Doug Eichner.

Mike Machado was out there just riding for points, due to the fact that he broke his collar bone at the last Worcs race, and still is not healed from it. But we are proud of him for hanging in there.

quadchick01
07-31-2006, 05:27 PM
But at the end of the first moto is was Tj Dietrich who would take the win.

quadchick01
07-31-2006, 05:28 PM
Jeff Spooner would grab the second place position.

quadchick01
07-31-2006, 05:29 PM
And Doug Eichner would round out the top three.

07-31-2006, 05:31 PM
As the pros took off we all knew the Nelson was in high hopes for grabbing another hole shot and taking the win, but the only thing was, that was everyone else’s plan as well.

quadchick01
07-31-2006, 05:32 PM
But it was Jeff Spooner who was able to grab the holeshot.

And Dustin was - no where near the front of the pack.

Looking back around the Talladega is was Nelson who was running to his quad, he was quick to get back on his feet after his tumble but once he tried to start going again he realized he was done. He snapped the spindle where the tie rod bolts on, and he would not be finishing this race.

quadchick01
07-31-2006, 05:35 PM
It looked as if today would be going in Spooners favor as he put some distance between himself and second place.

07-31-2006, 05:40 PM
Cyle Chislock was running a great race, when all of the sudden his motor decided it didn't want to run anymore. Chislock was running in second when this happened.

07-31-2006, 05:43 PM
Jason Weller was holding down the sixth position.

quadchick01
07-31-2006, 05:44 PM
Tj Dietrich was running in the top five, and having another great moto, when he threw his chain. That dropped him back into the eigth spot.

07-31-2006, 05:46 PM
Darrel Patton had some problems with his 450 in the first moto, and decided to run his raptor in the pro class. This bike is over the limit but everyone promised not to protest so that Darrel could still ride.

But before we stop talking about the pro class, I wanted to mention a rider who is new to the pro class this year, but has been around the scene forever. Chris Riley finished fourth this weekend in the pro class, and we are all very happy to see this young kid doing so well in this sport, he is definitely someone to keep your eyes on.

Christy McGuffin had grabbed the hole shot for the 4-Stroke beginner class in the first moto. But due to her inability to turn "sharply" due to her cast she dropped back quickly. She still managed to finish seventh overall for the weekend, and is just in high hopes that he doctor takes that thing off soon.

Keely Woosley is another rider who deserves to have her name mentioned. Woosley crashed really hard in the first moto, but still managed to finish the race. She came back for the second moto was quick to get out front, and lead the rest of the race.

Bryndlen Capogni took the first moto win for the 91-250 2Stroke beginner class. Capogni switched to a built bike this year, and just like her older brother who runs the Expert class, and done nothing but show improvement.

Unfortunately she had a little problem with the mud in the second moto, and was not able to take home the win for this weekend.

Jacob Hill who barley got his motor back in his bike after having cracked the cases on it held onto the second position for almost the entire moto, but fell off pace and dropped back a few positions.

Keith Taylor can not seem to pull together a complete moto. It seems as soon as he starts working through the pack someone always hits him and takes him out, or something breaks. But maybe this race would be different.

quadchick01
08-01-2006, 11:34 AM
However we spoke too soon.

Taylor has just made the pass on Pierce when his chain snapped, and took out the cases, he had to resort to his sisters quad in the second moto.

Darrel Patton, took second in the first moto, and was in a close battle for the first place position in the second moto, when he hit a rut just before the Talladega causing him to go end over end. Patton was laying in the middle of the track for a few minutes, and was finally able to get up and back to his pits. Talking to him later he felt like he had been hit by a truck.,

Patton did go to the doctor, and is now on crutches due to an ankle injury. We wish him a quick recovery.

The Rhyno class is one of the best classes to watch all weekend. They pull of some pretty crazy moves while racing.

quadchick01
08-01-2006, 11:57 AM
Even going side by side up the hills at glen helen.

quadchick01
08-01-2006, 11:58 AM
This is one of the coolest looking rhynos out there.

quadchick01
08-01-2006, 11:59 AM
But in the end it was the Rhyno Mafia crew who took the win.
