Would a hub or an axel be more likely to wear out... My wheel has a bit of a wobble and it is definitely comming from that area...

you need to tighten the castle nut holding the hub on.if it has been loose for a while it could start wearing.the hub should wear out before the axel.

thats what I was thinking... I have kept the castle nut tight but it still wobbles so I guess I got to go drop the 135 for the new hub...

I worked on it last night and everything seems to be working good now. I tightened the castle nut and put new cotter pins in and they seem to be tight now... I will just have to ride it and see if it holds up. If not I may have to invest in a new axel and hubs... thanks for the help

$135 is crazy for a new hub. A new OEM hub is less than $30 plus shipping if you shop around.

i just bought a hub from a member here for my wifes 400ex and it cost me $20 shipped

Yup.. $96 each on servicehonda.. lol.

Not a bad profit for a cast aluminum part with a couple cheap threaded studs in it.. lol.

Just tightening the castle nut wont fix the problem. Take the hub off, clean the splines on the axle and hub. Apply a liberal amount of grease to the splines then reassemble torquing the hub nut to 101ft #'s.

If the quad has been rode a considerable amount of time with the hub loose replacement parts may be needed.

it has all been cleaned and greased. then torqued.for some reason it backs off.it is actually bending the cotter key a little.all of the splines on the hub are all right and the axle is fine. i might break down and buy both. it isnt to much of a big deal.

I'm confused about the hubs. SH lists three different part numbers for the hubs.

99-01 42410-HC0-000 = $96.48
02-04 42410-HN6-000 = $28.38
05-06 42610-HP1-000 = $24.39

The wheel, wheel nuts, and castle nut are the same for all years. The axle got a new part number for 05-06 but 99-04 all use the same #.

What gives? Is it something negligable like a different shade of paint or slightly different length studs or ??

I tighten my hubs with a indersol rand 3/4 impact. Not as tight as it will go because it would probly turn my axle into a twizler. But I just tighten it by hand then hit it with the impact till the next hole lines up. Probly about 1/8th turn. Havent had a problem with my coming loose yet. one time I forgot to put a codder pin in. went all day with no problems. Mabie im just lucky.

Another bit of info i've heard ..... some of the lesser expensive parts are manufactured in a different location the same more expensive parts. I don't remember which ones are fron where:ermm:

A lot of those prices are "because they can".

There's no way a 1lb hub costs $60 to ship from japan. Especially when it's a container full. Heck sending each one individually via FedEx Air would be cheaper.. lol.

That could be true...

Another angle... does Japan have the materials to manufacture the parts or is it imported?
