I have tried to remove the axle nuts on my '02 400ex and they will not move at all. I have tried an air gun at 100psi and a 2 foot long cheater bar on my 1/2 drive wrench, neither one will do anything. I tried turning both left and right, any suggestions on how to remove these axle nuts to get my hubs off?

Jeeze!! Put some penatrating oil on it and that should loosen it up for you to get it off. Just a thought for now. :D

Damn, I have trouble trying to keep my rear hubs tight. Maybe they have red lock tite on the threads. If so you gotta heat it up to bust em loose. You need to turn them to the left.

you did turn the outer one inward and take off the retaining clip before trying to take them off, right?

I don't know what a PM is but, I do have a Clymer manual, I also tried WD-40, and yes I took the cotter pin out, but thanx for all the suggestions.

PM = Private message.

Try some other penatrating oil, wd40 (to me) isnt so great.

ahhhh...ohsobad and I thought you were talking about the big axle nuts...the ones that actually hold the axle in the carrier...not the ones that hold the hubs onto the axle. Sorry bout that.

Ya sorry for the confusion, It is just the one nut on each side (for each wheel) with the cotter pin. I'm thinkin of just getting a dremel and cutting it off, it think it might be stripped from the owner before me.

if it ain't turnin it ain't stripped :D give it a little heat with a torch and then try to break it loose. a nice long breaker bar with maybe a piece of pipe on that. Smooth steady pressure. Don't bang on it or anything like that. Good luck.

had the same problem a while back, ended up using a long breaker bar with a 3ft pipe over that. It eventually gave and i busted my knuckles on the floor....

add some heat to the nut. the factory applies thread locker and it does seem to take alot of force on some of them to get it loosened.

a large breaker bar and pipe as someone stated is also a good idea.

actually heat may need be the best thing. I know a lot of people argue to heat it up but I have had a lot of experience with siezed nuts in auto/aviation industry. Heat causes metal to expand. The colder you can get it the better of you are, usually. (just my two cents)

just put a torch on it untill it gets a little fed then it will just come off like butta. just wear gloves because the wrench can get pretty hot pretty fast. thats what i did on mine.
