I'm looking for a computer that I can play games on and fool around with also watch movies and listen to music. I know how to build the computer, I'm not retarted when it comes to computers so that shouldn't be a problem there. Anywho. I'm lookingthe Amd 64 cpus, I like their over clocking potentials and the 64 bit so its not outdated when Windows Vista comes out next year. Also I want SLI, but only with one GPU right now. I don't need much space for a hard drive. 80 gig will work but that the least. My budget is about $950ish at the most. I'd like it it be less. I need a complete system with the exception of a keyboard and mouse.
Heres what I've came up with but its a little expensive.

Memory/Ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145440)
Video Card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814161001)
Hard Drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148095)
Dvd Burner (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16827152058)
Sound Card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16829117105)
OS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16837102059)

All of this comes out to $974 shipped.
Any suggestions. I want to stay away from Intel and Dual Core becuase of cost reasons. I don't need top-of-the-line products either so a cheapo sound card and such will do me fine.

I rather stay away from the brand name PCs because they lock options up in the BIOS. I'm sticking with NewEgg also because they have great service (I've delt with them before and had no problems.) and they have a nice cheap selection.

Bump...

id drop the sound card (use onboard)and perhaps shop around for a case/psu combo..

the savings can go to a better video card or a faster processor..

if you sit tight, another price battle is brewing with intels newest release..
might not be much of a savings, but if you could somehow squeeze enough for a dual core AMD im sure youll thank yourself later..

I would switch to am2, and newegg and a couple other places have 3800x2 for 200 bucks, if u could do that it would be best. well i see the one you had in mind is less than 100$, i think you would still be better off with am2 singlecore.

sounds like an overall good system but maybe look for a motherboard bundle and u'd be looking a bit cheaper and possibly a better CPU

As of right now, I want to steer clear of dual core cpus. People have been having issues with them. Also they are way out of my price range. The Amd 64 3000+ is powerfull enough to play any games out today along with that video card. Plus I can over-clock it to around 2.6-2.8 Ghz and have it stable with aftermarket cooling in the future. I want a nice sounding system also so the sound card has to stay since the onboard sound is crap, plus its 12 bucks so what the hell.
I couldn't find a mobo/cpu package in my price range. I don't need the machine to be future proof but just needs to be powerful enough to play any game I throw at it along with some up-to-date parts.

Seems like you need something that will process video pretty good. I'd up your video card.... for video games this will be one of your most important devices. Buy the best you can.

The best Gpu is $400+ and thats waaaayyyyy out of my budget. Lol. I found this one and it seems like the best bang for the buck. From the reviews it plays HL2, Fear, Doom, BF2 ect ect... Also its Ati Crossfire ready so I can upgrade to two video cards in the future if needed.
