I dont know for sure, but i would assume it would stay cooler than plastic, giving you cooler air intake.

for the 400ex. it holds the battery and the airfilter.

from experience,if you are running mx,make sure to check the sub-frame frequently for cracks,the added weight from the battery in the back of the airbox caused my sub-frame to crack.

i think the aluminum box has a cleaner look. and is a little lighter than the stock box. aside from that, i dont know of any other gains. air flow should be the same once you take the lid off the stock box.....

the only advantage is that u can mount ur battery on it, so u can put a support where the weak point is on ur subframe once the battery is gone.
