trying to figure out where to start with a buddies 440.
99 400ex with 440 kit, 04 carb, supertrapp exhaust , no airbox just tube and filter. stock port etc. need to get an idea of pilot, main, and needle settings..i can tune from there, just need a baseline.

Start with a 160 main, 45 pilot, 3rd from the top on the clip, and go all the way in with the fuel screw and turn it back out approx. 2.5 turns...That should get you close, you can do some fine tuning, however. Let us know how it went.

i would start with at least a 170 main

Same here...don't be shy about starting out rich--then work your way down. A 175 wouldn't be unreasonable unless you live at a high elevation.

i would say even higher than a 175. i run a 178 MJ in my 426, with a pipe, no lid and a cam. i would go with a 175 and play with it from there.

FYI-- I'm running a 175M, 42P, 2 turns on mixture screw and clip lowered on notch on my 440 Stroker.

I might drop down to a 172.
