I just received a k&n filter for my 06 and the flange on the filter will only go inside the flange on the airbox. Did I get the right filter or what in the world is this design? I just figured it would be like my old 250r where the filter flange is outside of the airbox flange.

Maybe you bought the K&N pro filter kit that requires the lid to be removed in order to run that fitler.

got pics?

why we wouldn;t want him to ruin his engine

So everyone's concensus is that the filter goes on the inside. This is not a pro design kit. Just a $46 dollar K&N. Seems like it would help to have a inner aluminum ring to help support the seal.

I have one for an 06' and it goes on the outside. The little ring helps but I do not run on one and it is never leaked nor fallen off. I do recommend an outerwears on that K&N depending on what kinda riding you do. If it really dusty conditions then a foamy works better-if you are just in sand K&N works great!

That is pretty cool looking Chad! One of the members over on the .org has one very similar.

What kind of filter is that (think I've seen them on Ebay), and what do you mean by inverted velocity flange?

i seriously doubt you've seen these on ebay since they are manufactured only per my request. they are 6ply with velocity stack on the inside flange for increased flow, unlike the k&n 4-ply.

Well then somebody stole your design and is selling them on Ebay. I remember it disctinctly because of the unique end. It looked like a K&N except the end looked convex just like yours and they talked about the extra filter area compared to a K&N. Still curious what you meant by reversed velocity flange?
