How much of a difference is their in a 5.7 silverado, and 5.0?
im in the market for a Z71, and ive been looking everywhere for an extended cab 1500, thats a 96-98 with a 5.7, and im not havin much luck....but i have found a very nice 5.0. Does it significantly less power??

Which 450?

didnt know they still made the 305 in '96-'98, but yes, the 305 would make a good boar anchor. Keep looking, you'll find one.

The 305 5.0 are slow and get about 16 mpg. My dad has one.

Ummm, what year is your tundra? We're talking mid 90's trucks. Lets dig up numbers for Toyotas from 1996. I'd also like to see the torque curves compared to the Vortec 350.

305's suck period they have NOOOOOOOOO TORQUE. Really not a good truck motor or a motor for that matter its was gm's answer to go cheap back in the day and emission wise . they would use a 305 with a junk "metric transmission" I forget the numbers and they just sucked I unfortunatley had 2 of them a 350 is not and day from power delivery to everything. 305 had cam problems to soft thet would wear ver quick resulting in even less power . get a 350 theyre everywhere affordable and can built to the ilt a built 305 is like a 350 missing a spark plug wire. just my .02

Well the time period could have something to do with it, but the I force v8 was introduced in 97 or 98 in a land cruiser and that is the same 271 hp motor... im not talking down on the engine just saying id expect a 5.7 which is a significant amount of displacment to be putting out more than 250hp.... and on the torque my tundra will take the start against my friends 5.3L sirerra(sp?) and take the win in a screwin around drag...

EDIT: ooohh yea the tundra is a 2001 the GMC is 2005.

All hope isn't lost if it's gone....I have a 96 Z71 with less than 78k miles....I may be forced to selll it very soon. I wouldn't really want more than 7500 for it. It's white, Silverado, ext cab 5.7, rhino lining....it's very nice...:)

nice, thats exactly what ive been wanting. its so hard to find them around here, as soon as they go up for sale, they're bought. most dealerships wont even hold them since they are ''older''.

two of the trucks i found a week ago, already sold before i could even go and look at them...i was sooooo pissed, then i found this one...and i went to see it yesterday as they were closing, and its really nice. I just hope it doesnt sell monday morning before i get there!

They are nice trucks....The only thing different on mine now is that the nerf bars are bent up a little. I drove up a hill and a the top where it peaked, the barrs took all the abuse. So now they are both bent up a little, that's it. I bought my truck almost four years ago for $11.5K, with 57k miles on it. Didn't drive it in the winters much at all. It has been a very good vehicle.

with under 100k miles like you have now, around here you could easily sell it for $9,000-10,000
