Rear MX wheel size

Looking at gettin my new wheels...What do you guys recommend for MX...8" or 9"??? Any advantages or disadvantages to the sizes..I know im gettin a 10" front wheel...Thanks

Most people I ride with, with MX tires, run an 8" wheel.

The only advantage I see with a 9" wheel, is less tire sidewall, meaning less tire roll.....Not sure if it makes a big difference or not.

I've always ran 8", and never had a problem with exess tire roll.

I believe the 8's look better also;)

what size tires do u usally run front and back?

Most people, almost all, for MX anyways, run a 18-19" Rear tire, and a 19-20" Front tire.

Yeah I have stock on there now...So..I know ill be getting an 18" rear and a 20" front...to start off with..So i just wondered either an 8" or 9" rear wheel...

Cause I alwasy see 9" hipers for sale and I thought about getting some but I thought 8" would be the way to go for MX..Thats all

I run 8" rear hipers and 10" fronts never had a single problem!

a 9in rim will work just as well as the 8in. the only benefit i could think of is that a 8in rim would weigth less but it is so minumal that i dont think that would make much of a difference. if you get a good deal on hipers i would take them regrdless of if they are 8 or 9in.

Mostly sidewall flex. Weight is minimal. But when racing mx, the extra sidewall acts as an added cushion when jumping. Also on an aluminum rim it gives more room for error.
