Im sure that this question has been raised many times, but i was wondering if 400ex engines overheat when bored out.Im guessing it wouldnt be as big of a problem on the 416 and 426, but does the 440 have more problems in this area? These are questions that i have to raise before diving in, living in arizona :p . Any help is greatly appreciated.[Opinions on each kit would also be welcome]

its not so much the size of the bore, its more the compression which raises heat. when you bore it out to a 440 your obviosly going to raise comp. or you wont get that much more power. a 440 will deffinatly run hotter than a stock bore but as long as you watch you motor it wont be to much trouble. i rode my 440 in the woods (slower speeds, less cooling) in summer heat all day and it was fine. just run thicker oil in the summer and run premium gas, i ran a 50/50 mix of 94 octain with race gas ( i beleive 104 octain)

If you go to 440 go with HD studs and a larger oil tank and you should have no prob with over heating and blowing head gaskets.

My 440 hasnt overheated on me. Yesterday i was out on a local track for almost 6 hours and it didnt over heat, on top of that the track was very wet and full of ruts so i had to really give her to get through the mud and to get enough speed to make the 60fts. My friend was out with me and he has a stock 400ex, mine was hotter but not alot more
