Has Anyone ever changed the tranny on a 500 scrambler? A buddy of mine has a 99 500 and his tranny is effed so we are gettin a new one and want to put it in ourselves if it isnt too hard. The local polaris dealer said its a ***** to do because its conected to the engine, but I call bull****. If I knew how to send pics of it I would.

It's not too hard. It is easier to pull all of the rear plastic off, as well as the rear end, shock, swingarm. It's deffinately not a half hour kind of job. Take your time, label things to go back in the proper locations and get a good manual with exploded views.

ya thats what I thought. The only thing conected to the engine should be the belt to the clutch and pulleys.

Yup, the belt is the only thing connecting the tranny and the engine. It's a PITA because of everything you need to remove first. Pull the plastics, airbox, exhaust, then start on the right side and remove the center chain, rear brake, and swingarm pivot bolts, pull the swingarm and shock. I did a few of the polaris 4x4's an older sporsman 400 and a 425 magnum. The scrambler is a bit different but not too hard.
