a heavy duty caliper clamp will work fine.

use the old shoe to put over the piston and use the c clamp to push it in... just dont go to fast, screw it in real slow. ive seen it blow out lines and even blow the master cylinder cover off :eek2:

yah, if its front pads, you have to replace them both simultaneously, so you might need to let some brake fluid out, sense you have to compress the pistons on both calipers at the same time.

but put one of the old pads in, and just use a c-clamp. thats what i always do

i usually put a old pad down and then use a socket to cover it up, then clamp it down.

why do you have to do both at the same time?

you dont. If you are putting new pads on both sides, you can do one at a time

I know dude, I was really asking 400ex his reason. I was hoping to hear some good mechanical advice..
