450R rear shock

Anyone know if an 06 450r rear shock can be mounted to an 05 400?

yes it will work just need to grind sum of the shock mount. you can find 450r shocks on ebay cheap:D

thats exactly where i found one. $100 for a brand new one. I can only assume that it would be a VAST improvement over my stock one. Plus, isn't it the rear shock that is primarily for jumping, and the front shocks for steering or am I simplifying that a little too much?

It would be an improvement over a worn out shock no doubt.

From what I have heard it also lowers the rear end some.

ya it does lower the rear some but you can adj it so it looks right

i just checked out Honda's website, and it actually says that the travel on the 450's is .1" less. It looks though, like you can adjust the 450's a little more.

Are "showa" brand shocks, just a private label Works shock made for Honda?

no, showa is an actual brand. they r known for making dirtbike shocks. showa and kayaba have most of the oem gigs for the manufactures dirtbikes. showa making the quad shocks is prolly just because they already make the oem stuff for the bikes. so it's easier to do it that way then to find someone else to make the quad shocks. why use 2 diff companies to build ur shocks when all u need is one? get my drift? hope that helped:)

it does lower the rear end. this happens because the lower shock mounts on the 450r and 400ex swingarms r in diff positions. i believe the 450r shock is mounted closer to the front of the swingarm and the 400ex shock is mounted closer to the middle of the swingarm. i u think about it, the 400ex should have less travel with the 450r shock than with the stock shock because of the diff in how the shocks r mounted

I'll be running my first mx course tomorrow with my buddy. He's got a brand new R, so I'll check out and maybe measure the difference.

Never ridden an actual track before...just done trail, dunes, and backyard jumps. wish me luck!!
