Anyone remember reading about the liquid cooled 400EX conversion that some company made years ago? Pretty sure I read about it in some quad magazine. As far as I can remember, they just took a regualar EX cylinder and welded a water jacket around it....can't remember what they did for a water pump (electric maybe?). Pretty sure it was a one-off deal--I wanna say that Duncun did it...

I've tried searching for info on it but came up with nothing. NO, I'm not looking to water cool my EX. I just thought I would revisit it as a (now mostly pointless) curiosity....

It was FST that did it several years ago. There wasn't a water pump, the water was circulated by thermal dynamics (I think that's the right phrase).

no it had a electric water pump, if i'm not mistaken it was from a KTM but don't hold me to it. from the pictures that i have on my bedroom wall they mounted a electric water pump down by where the oil lines run into the egine. i had thought of this conversion but for what its worth i'm just going to go with a CRF:devil: the kit was somwhere around $2500 i think

Think i've seen an aftermarket jug for the 400ex that is liquid cooled. "Ice Cube" Is what they call it.

Those are replacement cylinders for engines that are already liquid cooled, not a conversion from air to liquid cooling.

I had heard only one unit was made by FST. I have nothing to back that up:ermm:

I know that duncan made a new cylinder that had twice as many fins. It would have been a wise upgrade before the 450's came out, if you were running a bigger bore or stroke.

The PC4000 cylinder. A super nice cylinder but like you said, I doubt they sell many these days...

yep, it was FST. mickey ended up telling me for what you will pay its not worth it. he just recommended his oil cooler that taps into the head cover.

I have the oil cooler and I think it works pretty good...

Where did you get the oil-cooling kit from and how much did it run you? I have alot of problems with my shifting after I've ridden for awhile and it gets hot. I'm guessing this would help this problem.

Here is the link to the website... But I think you could make this for cheaper.....

COUPLE HOUSES, FITTINGS, AND A BIG TRANNY COOLER AND YOU'RE GOOD.

IMO, I don't think spending the cash to make a 400ex liquid cooled is worth it...

i saw this one kit in a magazine not too long ago it had a conversion kit coolent would go in the block where a bored out system would go around the block like five times then come out too a raditator that would be mounted up front on the frame right behind the bumper it was bulky looking, heavy, and very expencive. ur engine looks big enough to be a 500cc. must not of went too well cuz then oviously everyone (with deep pokets)would buy this:rolleyes:
