Hey, I was wondering will a CRF FCR carb fit on a 400ex w/o anymods ? Or what do I have to do.

search for a thread by QuadJunkies entitled "450r carb on a 400ex" or something like that. lots of good information in it.

I think nosliw might be confusing an FCR with the 04/05 TRX450R carb--they're two different animals...

This thread might help:

If you do get a FCR, make sure you find an aftermarket one, or one with a long neck connecting to the motor. I had one off of a YZ dirtbike and the neck was short and I had clearance issues with the gas tank. I am 95% sure that the stock FCRs off of Yamahas can not be interechanged (the neck).

I hope this made sense!

That's a whole lotta' carb for an EX. Unless you can get it for an absolute song, I'd look elsewhere...

I agree, the 39mm I have works great for every type of riding that I have tried, I don't know about the dunes yet cause I am too broke to make the trip...I am sure it would do fine, they like to be held WFO!

Sorry, but not tryin to hijack your thread but what can i do to make my throttle easier to use, im dying after 15 minutes and everyone who rides my bike complains of how hard the throttle is. What can i do about it? THNX

Hey Turtle,

There are several thinks you can try:

1. new throttle cable,

2. lube the cable,

3. make sure the gas tank is not smashing the cable which makes it hard to push...

I hope that helps!

Removing the throttle tube from the bar and cleaning the gunk out is part of my maintanence routine for my quad. For some reason it likes to collect crap in there ruining the action.

Hey GP, what about a YFZ FCR39 carb on a 400ex, I was going to see how my 41.5mm carb worked on my cousins 400. If YFZ carb works, I could get a 39 and bore it to a 41. What has to be done to fit YFZ FCR carb on 400ex ?
