What about steet motorcycle engines? There are plenty (well, some at least) that have shaft drive and modern engine designs. I bet a GL1500 Goldwing engine would be wicked in a Rino-type vehicle (if you've got the fab skills to make it work). Most BMW motorcyle engines are shaft drive...

on an engine that's already chain driven, i don't think u can turn it into a shaft drive. but, like they said, u can put a shaft driven engine into a frame that once housed a chain driven engine

why would the motor have to sit the same oraintain that is came out of the bike it could be inverted(set sideways). with it inverted you could adapt a shaft drive from the output shaft or just run a chain to the input of your transefer case.

There is a custom shop here in Yakima, Wa that makes some pretty extreme golf carts. I believe they all use sled engines to power them. Seems like an easy set up.

^^^^ It must be because Honda already does that with the Rancher.

get a sled engine and use a polaris tranny because you can have a shaft / chain drive or shaft/shaft drive. could be really intresting

What about belt driven? Buell makes belt driven motorcycles, they sound awesome too.

Most out-law racing cars are street bike motors that are set side-ways with a shaft assembly welded to the counter shaft sprocket. Another option you might consider looking in to is a snowmobile motor. You wouldnt have to worry about shifting issues and you could easly convert it to a shaft driven assembly with a back end of a Grizzly or Foreman drive system since they are based on a belt drive system. That and snowmobile motors are still made with 2-stroke and 4-stroke varients with more than enough horsepower to push a vehicle the size of a Rhino.
