i want to bore mine out to a 440 but ive noticed that more people run a 416 or 426 than a 440. Is it that much more reliable, or does those give out more power than the 440?

depends on what you want to do. you can have the stock cylinder bored to 416 or 426 without replacing the sleeve to get a 440 bore you have to resleeve your cylinder. I have 426/88mm bore and piston and it was a noticable differance from the stock bore. I've read on here that the 426 rev up a little quicker than 440 but its also said to have heat trouble from the thinner piston walls mine hasn't had horrible heat issues yet.

the 440 has loads of bottom end, and the 426 and 416 have a pretty even power spread. the 440 is not unreliable if u build it right. the 426 and 416 are prolly more popular because they r easier to build

I have a 440 and I have no complaints what so ever. Im doing a rebuild shortly though because I have a 440kit with a stock cam. I don't have HD headstuds installed right now and I have never blown a head gasket.

I bored mine out to a 416 when i blew the stock rings out. Now, when the 416 goes, (which will hopefully be a couple of years, since it has only 15 hrs on it), i will bore it to a 426, then a 440. when one blowes a 440, they have to get a new sleeve, because it cant be honed out like a stock sleeve.
