View Full Version : Valve clearances for hotcam?

My buddy picked up a stage 2 hotcam and said I could give his stage 1 a whirl. I dont have the valve clearnaces for this cam, anybody know what they are off hand? Thanks. 05 450r with stage 1 hotcam.

Same as stock as far as I know:

.011 Exhaust +/- .001
.006 Intake +/- .001

Yep. Some Hotcams cams call for different specs, depending on the application. But for the 450r they are the same as stock.

my buddy installed my stage 1 and he did not have to change the shims.

that is very rare.
You better plan on having to change the shims, no matter what cam you use. Consider yourself lucky, if you don't have to. I would think I did something wrong....if the shims didn't need changed.

I was going to make the same comment. Rare indeed. Even the chances of being able to swap the existing shims around are very low...
