My 87 250x started to make some noise in the top end, it sounded like the cam chain. So I started with the cam chain tensioner, seemed o.k., so I adjusted the valves, they were real close but I did them anyway. The noise was still there, so I pulled the head cover off to take a look and I noticed I could move the cam from side to side. The Honda manual says you have to press the cam bearings on and off? I took the cam out and I could slide the bearings off, so does anyone know if this is normal or a common/known issue with the 250X?

Any input would be great!

Thanks,
Ken

Been a long time since I've messed with my cam bearings.. But I do not remember ever having to press them on or off.

Could be wrong though. As I said, it's been several years.

On some of them, on my engine they almost fall right off.

if the manual says u have to press them, then i would assume that ur bearings r shot

Well, I replaced the cam and bearings checked the cam chain, looks good and tight, and the noise is still there.

What should I check next? What are the common things to go bad that make a clicking / knocking noise, Piston Pin... ????

Thanks,
Ken

well if it wasnt the cam, my guess would be the wrist pin. Your prob do for a top end any way.
