I am fixing up a go-kart that my nephew gave me and he had sanded all the paint off and it was sitting in the weather-bare metal-.it now has substantial surface rust but not all the way through. what do you guys use to clean off rust after sanding or even before? Is there a liquid i can buy from a hardware store or sumthin?....thanks

In a pinch, you could use hydrochloric acid mixed at like 5% solution(95% water)

BUT!!!! you will need an iron phosphate to immediatley apply before your rinse water dries or it will flash rust again.

If its not to bad, sand it down, blow it off and start your painting.

after i sand it down, should i rub it down with mineral spirits? or something like that? then prime and paint it. or just sand it,blow it,paint it?....my lord....sounds kinky...lol

You can use nothing, but the metal surface needs to be clean before priming begins.
