Saturday 6-22-06 me and my buddy when to the Red River Motorcycle Trails near muenster & bultcher,Tx. On the second ride out we decide to goto this pretty tall sand burm. Anyways i use it as a ramp its kinna similar to a ramp at the dunes and it launches ya. Well I hit it a couple of times made sure it was a good straight launcher, so i hit it about mid 4th gear, and that went good. On the way back to hit it again some dirt bikes came and 180'ed around the burm and messed up the ramp, but i guess i was just wanting to hit it again and hit on the top of 4th gear. It launched me sideways, landed real hard then my left ankle and leg when under the tire the i seen the quad just miss me. After it happend i jumped up to look at my ankle, i was feeling it. wiggling it around. I didn't feel any bones, it was just starting to swell. I doubt if its broke, because i rode it back, and then i drove home and i have a manual in my truck. But its swoll up. I had my helmet on, but no boots. I tried some boots out once, but i can't even shift with em, at all. Do they make any kind of riding shoes that protect your ankle like the boots?

Dang that sucks, theres a jump like that; that always launches me sideways... I've learned to hit it (Not going to fast) and just push it back to normal while im in the air, but I know what you mean cause it still sucks!
But they make some boots (Not sure what called, I got from Gander Mtn.) that are black and (or) camo and me and my dad both like them very much! They are water proof and can be used for more than just riding, and there much softer and easier to flex!

If i would of had boots all i would of done was wipe out without the busted up ankle. my protaper SE series bars didn't bend at all, and my lil trail tech lights are still perfect. I always wondered if them would be smashed on the first roll over.

When i tried some boots they were them A.R.C kind from rocky mountain. Could it be cuz them boots are the cheapest, and are over bulky. Are there any atv type boots that make it were you can shift your quad, but still have ankle protection etc.

Find some boots you like and wear them. I am not trying to preach, but I busted up my ankle wearing boots and without them it would have been a lot worse. By busted up I mean 3 screws and a bone graf. I have a slight limp but I can walk and ride. I owe it to my boots.

I thought boots are suppose to prevent that from happening. Whats the reason to get em.

It is like a helmet. Yes you still have a chance of head injury but it better prevents it and lessens it. The boot will save you many times, but you can always push the limits of and safety gear.

I tore some ligaments in my left ankle so I know how you feel. I went out and bought some FOX Tracker boots. Yes I had a tough time shifting at first but all I did was bring my shifter up a notch and ride like that and it worked out well. My ankle is still not healed 100% but with the boots on I can still trail ride. Not up to anything more than small jumps but without the boots I wouldn't be riding without a lot of pain. just my .02

I think that the top boot anymore is the Alpinestar tech 9, There pretty pricy, but my buddy says there pretty sweet to wear.

Try to find a good set of logger boots, at least 10" high and non steel toe, for the best inexpensive help. I do not think they are the best solution though. Really need off road boots. My ankle broke in Wyoming. Was only wearing steel toed hikers on a Polaris sportsman that flipped endover. It swelled up and acted like a sprain, toes turned cool colors, walked and drove with it. Got back and found out that I had broke the outside bone at the growth plate. 4months of aircast and 10 total months later still dealing with the pain.
