reload them..
use 30-30 bullets, theyre more common..(for the actual cartridges, not in the gun..)

btw, with the angle youre firing at those bullets could ricochet.. just so ya know..

Lots of websites have 500 or 1000 round bulk packages, of Wolf ammunition, in 7.62x39. Thats cheap ammunition, not real accurate, but it is....Cheap. Then some places have higher quality rounds available, like Winchester or PMC

I REALLY need to buy some. I've got a Russian 1954 SKS, I myself only got about 100 rounds through it, when I got it....and just have never picked up more ammuniton for it:(

go to cheaperthandirt.com and request a catalog...theyll have those bullets

AK's aren't too accurate anyways, just blast wolf, its cheaper, and shooting Winnie or Federal.

PMC isn't quality either. its Federal's super cheap line. Almost got me killed once upon a time with PMC 375 ammo.

i love my 10/22 they r one of the best guns out there for .22's

I agree, my dad actually inherited it from his dad about 26 years ago, and his dad had it a while before that.

It shot great anyways, but I disassembled it down completely, down to the trigger group, and cleaned EVERYTHING. Everything is SO smooth now.

Can't wait to try it out, maybe sometime this week.

Next time I take it down, i'm considering dropping in an aftermarket trigger, or something. We want to keep it looking factory, but its hard to keep from modding them, lol.

It's probably semi auto...

it should be semi, my bro has the same thing

I'm sure it's semi-auto. An NFA transferable select-fire AK would be worth $15,000-$20,000+. :eek2:

While we're showing off firearms, here's one of my favorites. It's semi, but bump-fires like a dream--a nice simulation of full auto.

not quite that much, but yeah they're expensive.

Now one of these, yeah it costs 15-20K

Or one of these if you've got real deep pockets

Gotcha...I just barely keep up with current NFA prices.

Rumor has it that there are a handful of transferable mini-guns around...If true, that's gotta be top-dog as far as high-dollar NFA goes!

Transferable Glock G18s also hold mythical status among the NFA community. No one seems to know if there are any in existance...

Most Outdoor stores stock 7.62x39R. We carry it at Gander Mountain, I know dunahms has it, Dick's has it, and most smaller firearms dealers. Pretty common round with all the ak's and sks's floating around. The reason all ammo prices are getting so high is the copper and brass prices are through the roof. Its effecting anything that uses copper or brass. It sux bigtime for buying ammo.

I forgot who had the sks, but do you ever have jamming problems after a few rounds are fired through? I didnt have the russian, I had the Yugo, and that thing would jam up after it heated up a little, after about 6 rounds. I hated that thing. Maybe the russian ones were better though.

CannondaleRider
07-23-2006, 03:09 PM
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I do believe the Russians and the Romanians were better then most others.

I never had problems. We went through all the 100 rounds at once, in a period of about 2 hours...usually blasting it...never jammed a single time, fired perfectly, and it was probably slightly dirty then.

It's clean as can be now, can't weight to get some ammunition and go shooting again

I think your right, I always here good things about the russians, with all there firearms, usually very good quality.

The 30-30 is a real nice gun. It wont ricochet, I heave shot all kinds of guns at water at all angles and never had one do it.

:ermm: Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it can't happen. Anytime you shoot water at an acute angle there is a risk of the bullet ricocheting off into the air. It's certainly possible to have a bullet ricochet off into the air and not even know that it happened...

lmao... definately semi-auto. i've had some people try to tell me how to make it fully auto. involves a file is all i'm gonna say. i'm not about to attempt it, simply for the fact that i don't feel like having the gun blow up in my face, plus i don't feel like getting busted with it. :chinese:

when i first got the gun back in the spring nobody could get ammo for it, including cabela's or cheaperthandirt. every now and then i found a few boxes at gander mountain. but 3 boxes (60 shots) lasts about 30 seconds they way i shoot it:devil: maybe i can get them in bulk now, not sure.

whoever mentioned the SKS heating up and jamming..
well mine wont jam...but she heats up really bad after a few clips. barrel will burn my fingers if im not careful:blah:

only complaint i have about the gun is the stock is too short. i found a company that makes a synthetic folding stock with a matching forearm and pistol grip. gotta get that ordered

I usually get my 7.62x39 from Ammoman (http://www.ammoman.com/) . I like how the shipping is included in all the prices.

I have noticed that ammo prices have shot-up ( :p ) recently...

yeah the 7x62's are steadilly becoming hard to come by. down here, if you find a good gun show, we get 1000 rd cases for around $50 which is a steal if you know the right ppl. :p but wastin a case of em and feeding a sks or a ak-47 is a blast!

It's not an M4.

It's a gun I put together myself. It's techically classified by the BATFE as a pistol--that's how it's legal to have such a short barrel. There's a little more to it than that (Federal gun laws and BATFE interpretations get sorta complicated) but it's a standard AR-15 lower with a stock-less buffer tube and a 7.5" upper. If it had a normal stock on it than it would require a National Firearms Act tax stamp in order to have such a short barrel. A rifle with a barrel shorter than 16" requires a tax stamp to be legal.

It's not a very practical weapon. The wounding mechanism of 5.56x45 is fragmentation (kinda unique for a FMJ bullet) and fragmentation depends on velocity (2,500 ft/sec minimum for most 5.56 bullet weights). The 7.5" barrel doesn't provide that velocity. Plus, the noise and fireball it emits is increadible and the short gas system hurts reliability. It's mostly just for fun. It's very fun to shoot but kind of a handful...

I was thinking about converting the 10/22 to a .17 HM2....but, is it really worth it.

I've heard the .17s are more accurate, and have better range, but do less damage.

But for not-to-long-range plinking, would it be worth the coin to convert it?

thats a M-249 SAW with the short barrel, and 200 round box mag.
