I'm really anxious to purchase a brand new 450r from a dealer, but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I go out and buy one..

1) What year should I consider buying 05-07? Any difference besides cost?

2) I want to pay cash, so what would be the best deal anyone would ever be able to get? What have you guys purchased yours for, ect..

3) Is there alot of difference between the 400ex and the 450r, I own a 400, and I've rode a 450, but I cant really tell the difference besides power, I would probly have to spend a little more than 10 mins on the 450 to figure out the differences, I've heard some people dont like the 450s because of the light front end, is this true and will it be a problem for me at all?

Any help or input is appreciated, thanks guys

there were major changes between the 05 and 06 models.
the 06 got:
longer swing-arm and a better rear linkage.
higher compression,
front end changes
a fcr carb.
and much more

The 07's are the same as the '06 but with some color changes.

as far as what the cost is now, both 06 and 05's can go for a good deal less than what i paid for my 06 a few months ago.

the differences betweent the 400 adn the 450 are noticable. def. more power,, but better handling. I had my 400ex with aftermarket suspension(elka rec series fronts and gt thunder rear link/revavle) and it is comparable with the stock 450 suspension. The 450 suspension is little stiffer and sets the bike higher than my a/m 400 suspension. that took about 2 rides to reall get comfortable on. over all, you will be happy with the 450.

You will here all kinds of bad stories about all bikes and differant opinons, so the best I can do is say I love my 06 er not one little hint of trouble have had it for 7 months and ride it alot. I do it all tracks, hills, trails most, and graval pits. been riding for 20 years. hope this helps.:D :D

Ive also had my 04 since april of 2004 and still have had no problems. i ride hard and go from woods, track, trail, fields, to blacktop roads all the time. if riding with the thing on blacktop isnt hard on it.. then i dont know what is.

the only really bad things about the 450r is the suspension set up its kinda tough and tires but other then that its great just spend about 1500 on suspension and it will be good to go i mean you are paying cash just dont pay the full msrp and make a few payments

I'm probly going to put $5000 down, and pay $400-500 a month on the rest of it

Would $6200 be a decent price, or should it the price be a little better? And thanks for you help, Hawk and JJ, I appreciate it

I paid $6135 plus tax here in missouri. There ani't no comparision between a 400 and a 450r. I had no problems with my 450er. There a blast to ride. If you dont put in the HRC kit atleast open up the airbox lid and rejett and add a slip on exhaust and you"ll be surprized a what a difference it make.

wow.. i live in seattle washington and ive looked everywhere for a red 450r.. there are a ton of them around here.. but out of the 10 stores i went to, the cheapest i found was 7400 out the door.. 8000 with hrc installed. i thought that was ridiculous! there is no way im paying more than around 6500 otd!

The cheapest place in the country is Abernathy Cycles in Union City, TN. I was skeptical of the prices even after talking to a salesman on the phone. I took a chance and drove 11 hrs one way from TX and paid $5584 OTD for an 06 kicker. I think this is one of the few places left with kickers. They had 20 something kickers and 60 something electric starts, black and red.

I got my 05 for $6,000.00 otd from Jefferson City, MO in April of 05. I would say if you pay cash you could get a better deal. Or why not just by a good low hour used one for cash and make no payments what so ever? Plus I have heard a few problems with the 06 front ends wanting to be unpredictable and also in the XC race setting the 06 er's not wanting to start when hot but I do not know first hand. I personnaly like the kicker.

I've already contacted ProCycle and, they will not ship their vehicles

I cant tell you the shop name unless you go into it with me and are serious about purchasing a bike, I've gotten good deals for all of my friends, and sometimes they call in to check on the price, and ruin the deal for themselfs and I

If it is Everett Powersports, then I dont know what you are talking about because that was one of the places I tried. They wouldn't go any lower than 7400

GoldenGloves
07-28-2006, 03:57 AM
Ohh, they'll go lower for me, but they arent the place, my buddy is on a race team, and he buys vehicles from the places I usually get mine from, so thats a plus reference for me...

Procycle Sucks! I bought one there too. There advertise price always has a bunch of add on's. The Missouri State Attorneys office has a class action law sutie against them for the old Bait and swithch sceam. When driving around springfield mo you will see some bright colored bumper stickers that say PROCYCLE SUCKS. I wonder why.

I live in Missouri and I would NOT buy from Pro Cycle. They have a bunch of fees they show you AFTER you sign the papers. Call the Better Bussiness Bureau and the Attorney Genrals office to find out Pro Cycles record. My Bro bought a 450R from Pro Cycle last year and they added about $800.00 in fees. They are not good people.

Pro-Cycle Settles with State

A Springfield business will shell out nearly $200,000 in a settlement with the Missouri attorney general`s office.
In January, the Pro-Cycle dealerships in Springfield and Columbia were sued for misleading customers through advertisements and failing to disclose certain fees.

Under the terms of the settlement, procycle will pay $114,000 to 364 customers and another $84,000 to the state.

Part of that money will go to the Greene County school funds.

During the next few months, the Attorney General`s office will be contacting customers who will be receiving settlement payments.
