Anyone know any info why 2006 tranny gears 3 & 4 has the hard casing coming off on drive side. This normally indicates load.
Tranny has 4-5hrs on it. Tranny oil changed regular and is quality Motorex. Could this be a gear manufacture fault ????

Chad, I have looked at this and it explains the fork, drum and 3 & 4 gears should be replaced. It talks about the dogs not engaging correct and pushing apart too load up fork and mark the drum
The question i dont understand is the gear hard facing coming off
Unless i read the thread incorrect it didnt mention the load on the drive side of gears only side load, or have i mis understood Dees explanation
I try to take a pic and send to you
It is the area right in middle of tooth on drive side
cheers

please photo. gears flacking, if this is what you are referring of is caused by excessive heat. Honda has already acknowledge this issue in their tranny. Case hardening the tranny pack to fastbygast.com and backcutting the gears will help eliminate all these issues.

Chad
These are pics of the gears
Also i have added some more pics for other forum users to see what gears in question and what to look for

Gears to replace M3, M4, C3, drum and centre shift fork
You can see they are blacker than the rest, extra load and heat
Worn Drum
Worn dogs on gears
Worn gear edge where fork runs

the same happened to my quad.
i took it honda under warranty and they wouldnt fix it.
they told me cause i had raced it that it was abused.
the damn thing was only two months old.
i call bs. is honda gonna recall this tranny or what?
i even tried to order o6 parts and theyre on back order.
that tellsyou this is happening to alot of people.
i ended up buying 05 gears to put in my 06.

it takes some customizing but can be done.
