YOU CAN BUY A 42 MONTH EXT. WAR. ON EBAY FOR 399.00 AND YES IF YOU ARE STILL UNDER FACT. WAR. YOU CAN BUY IT. A NEW STARTER IS $275 OR USED ON EBAY $100.

It is not the starter that is the problem-it is everything inside the case; starter clutch and the gears that drive it is what goes bad. I have already had mine replaced under warranty and thk god I bought the 4 year extended! Money well spent in my book-replacing all those parts with labor will set you back well over $500. It just paid for itself in one visit!

I didn't get it, but it might be worth it. I am taking mine in to get the updated recoil gear put in as well as having everything else checked out for wear.

Hey Dave, wtf is the updated "recoil" gear? Is that what the fix is??

Not real sure if it's a fix or not, but it's a updated part, and I'm making darn sure I get it! LOL. I guess it takes more of the "recoil" then the original so it doesn't hurt the other parts. Rather it works or not I don't know yet...

Mine is in the shop right now getting the all the gears and bearings replaced. Dealer said Honda does NOT have upgraded parts yet. They are putting in the same bearings. Dealer told me they need to replace about 15 parts, which some are on back-order.

Do you know the part number of the upgraded bearings?

BTW-- Dealer said the ONE-WAY SPRAG BEARING is what causes the main starting issue.

They said if you give the bike gas when try to start the engine it has the tendancy to back-fire. This backfire messes up the one way sprag bearing.

I guess this is what that updated recoil gear is suppose to do. Take more of the kick back or whatever of the starter. This is an updated gear, not bearing. The bearing makes sense though as well. I would ask them about the gear, it was in the letter they get monthly called "the wrench".

Thanks, I will ask them.
