I installed a 416 (10.8-1 comp) piston in my quad and after break in I had a little oil seeping from the head gasket. I know it's time for a re-torque, but does that bit of oil mean the head gasket is blown? Or can I just re-torque to 38 ft. lbs and call it good. There's no weird noises or power loss that I can tell. It was a cometic gasket. Thanks for your help

did u get HD studs? and did u torque the studs correctly?

I didn't get HD studs due to the low compression (10.8-1) and I torqued them to 33 ft lbs in accordance with the manual. I will retorque them to 38 ft lbs, but just wanted to know if I should just replace the gasket.

Do a leakdown test on it. That will tell you if the gasket is blown.

^^What he said, leakdown is your best bet. Why would you overtorque the studs? That's just asking for a pulled head stud. Either leakdown test it or tear it apart and do it over using some copper spray and a new gasket.

38 ft lbs seems to be the recommended torque for a larger piston on this quad, by the people on this site.

if you used a steel flex head gasket then it needs replaced because they don't loose the torque value. If it is a composite gasket try to retorque it to the 38 ft lbs.. we always torque every 400ex head at 38 ft lbs and never have problems with pulled studs or head gaskets.
