im looking into gettin a new 450r... i can get a leftover 05 for 5,800 or the 06 for list price like 6,400 or whatever it is... is there a difference from the 05 to the 06? anything i should know about?

the 06 is a little quicker I would have an 06 if it were up to me but I was one of the first buyers so I have an 04

if the price on the 05 were a bit lower i would say go for the 05, (they are selling for about 5-5200 here)

the 06 swinger was extended 1 1/4", new link, longer rear shock, made some small changes up front to the suspension mount points, the spindles are different, the bore and stroke changed to what the crf has for bore and stroke, the head (i think) is identical to the crf450x, compression went from like 10.5:1 to 12:1 it has a 40mm fcr instead of the 42mm keihin, enlarged air filter, the mufflers rear mount is now part of the grab bar, they changed the cdi so it can be easily mod'd to get another 1000 rpms out of the bike (green wire mod, but it also changes the timing) changed the ratio of 1st gear so it is a little lower now, went down a tooth on the front sprocket and of course e-start.

those are the things worth mentioning off the top of my head

i have an 04 and 06er i would go with an 05 if i was you. the 06 is faster but you need to change the front end to the 05 and if you get the er add a kicker. when you add that all up you can do alot to an 05.

man i would go with the 06- it is leaps and bounds better than the 05...

i with you, i have an 04 and an 06.

but for the average rider, he wont notice the starter, its the folks trying to launch a dead engine start that feel that pain

as far as the steering and myself, i didnt really notice anything that bad with it, while my steering stem, arms and shocks are aftermarket, i left the spindles cause they seem fine to me.

i do agree however, to get the 05 like i mentioned above, only if it is going to save you some $$$

The carb would be a big issue for me with an 05. The lower 05' compression can be fixed easily enough (and all years could use a new cam) but the carb would be an expensive upgrade...

I know the 05 carb works allright but I'd just rather have the FCR of the 06.

[Somewhat off topic--but that's what's nice about the YFZ. The 06 got some changes but any year YFZ rips from the get-go. No pistons or cams needed. I like the TRX, but I'd probably buy a YFZ before an 04/05 TRX.]

what exactly is leaps and bounds better about it. the electric start does not work as well as the kicker. the front end is not as good as the 04 or 05. the rear is slightly better. i like the 04 05 shocks much better, the 06 shocks are very stiff. The 06 parts prices are rediculous. The 06 is faster, but im not sure if the motor is more reliable.

i don't know where fawn grove is, but $5800 is WAY too much for an 05. if you're in western pa you can get one hundreds, maybe 1000, cheaper.

what do you mean the e-start does not work as well... just because you hear a FEW stories about them not working, doesnt mean that they're all like that. the motor is very reliable... as long as you're not a jackass and know how to take care of it

i am still with jb on this one, while i may not agree about the steering, i dont think the 06 model offers enough to prevent anyone from saving a few $$$ and get the 05
