I know a few on here are interested in PS, so I thought i'd make a place to show off/discuss work and trade tips and tricks.

This isnt an "omg change the color on my plastics" thread, so don't post requests in here please, do that in the PS thread in Body.

i think this is a good idea because a lot of people dont know how to use PS correctly so they ask someone else to do it... this is thier chance to learn and do it for themselves.

heres how you do what you do in that picture. First you hit ctrl+U, and then check the colorize box off and move the hue and saturation options all the way to the left and then click ok. Then take your polygonal lasso tool and circle what you want to be in color and then after everything is selected to what you want done click on the history brush tool and keep moving that sucker to get it back to normal. hope this helped some photoshop noobs:devil:

now, how do you change color, for instance, the frame to red?

250ex13
07-17-2006, 08:57 PM
I just take a paint brush, set opacity to 68% and pait over it and it comes out fine.

also if you want to change the color of the plastics or something like that you can do layer>New adjustment layer>
Hue/saturation left click gruop with previos then choose wich color you want to be changed then change it with the hue bar.

killerofcrows48
07-17-2006, 09:09 PM
all i ever did was image>adjustments>hue/saturation

since my plastics were yellow, i just picked "Yellows" in the drop down bar and changed the color with the "Hue" bar

Well I tried out some techniques that you guys posted and I think it came out OK.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f29/nick110/coolPS110.jpg

But my question is how do you guys keep your heand steady or the mouse steady. I have 6.0 and when I use the lasso tool it flips out sometimes and like goes across the screen and then I have to redo what I just did.

250ex13
07-19-2006, 01:02 PM
Well are what lasso are you using? If your using the magnetic lasso or the regular lasso try using the polygonal lasso.

did you paint over the frame?

heres a hint.

when you select something, and lets say you want to do the black and white thing, select the first thing, and then hold down SHIFT untill you start selecting your next object then let go. that was you can do more than one thing

yea i painted over the frame

i didnt read the whole thread....but this is how i do the color thing...outline what you want but before you connect the lines..make a line to the outside of the picture, go all around the border, then back down the line you made to the object you traced, then connect the line, and play with hue/saturation to make the backround black and white

here is a few i did

theTman
07-24-2006, 05:09 PM
....for this one i only outlined myself then made it b/w

I GET IT, anything you want to change you have to outline first then choose the color or change you want to do.
It all makes sense now:cool:
You say to use the poly lasso tool, but it seams a little rough, does the magnetic work better if you have a steady hand.

use quick mask mode makes selection things a bit easier...you select the quick mask button and then use your brush to hightlight over it. after everything is selected go back to Standard Mode.

you might have to go to Select<inverse...to make the right part selected

Myspace may reduce the size of the file you upload because it is too big. To do this, instead of taking frames of your animation it reduces the amount of colors so it starts to fill it in. Im not really sure though

This image shows a few of the mistakes I found after looking over it for about 2 minutes, I'm sure there are more.

Also some prefer the lassos over the background eraser tool. I like to use the pen tool myself, but I'd easily take the lasso over the background eraser.

Theres missing grass under the stand, colour area in the spokes, LOTS of missing spots on the rocks, missing under the right side panel to her arm, ect. Lots of mistakes. I was trying to get someone not very good at photoshop (unlike you) to notice. Heres the finished version. And I still stand by my trusty backround eraser.

i'd like to add some input. if you are thinking about downloading and using a hacked version of photoshop instead of paying the hundreds of dollars to use it there is a free open source program called the GIMP which is almost the same. and someone used the GIMP code to make a program called GIMP shop, which has all the menu stuff in the same order as photoshop....i usually use fireworks 8 (way better than photoshop in my opinion, and you can make webpages with it) or GIMP shop. just search GIMP and youll get a ton of downloads...if you care about being legal which most ppl dont. just lettin ya know cause it took me a few yrs to find out about it...

Maybe they can add a "Photography/Graphics" section to the forums for this??? With a "requests" sub-category.

I paint racecars for video games. Using Photoshop CS2 and Corel Draw X3. It's a 2D template that gets mapped onto the 3D version for the game:
