what is this and what does it do? it has a dial on it, that says minimum and maximum level settings on it.

scottwvu
07-17-2006, 04:42 PM
and it has a little toggle switch on it.

scottwvu
07-17-2006, 04:44 PM
and this is how it is hooked up to the battery. ( two wires per terminal ).

Looks aftermarket.Either an alarm or something for lights.

It's not nitro. It is on a Raptor 660. I'm kinda worried about experimenting with it, for fear of messing something up.

well, CDI box seems to be a popular answer.
So what the hell does a CDI box do?

And I have NO CLUE what's up with the toggle switch. It is wired directly to the box and it has all of my buddies stumped.

obviously something that has nothing to do with the motor or anything. probably something like the lights or an alarm like said before.

cdi box would for one have more wires going into it with an actuall female plug on it and wouldnt be running any random wires to the battery like that.

Im guessing its a CDI box. Have you ever seen the vortex ignition box? it has a handlebar mounted toggle switch to switch between curves. Maybe the dial is to just dial it where it hits harder? :huh

if it was a CDI, though, why would it wire into the battery? they run off the stator....

Deffinitly Holeshots. Either that or Handle bars.

MXRACER118
07-17-2006, 11:41 PM
IT IS NOT A CDI BOX!!!

Most likely a cheap alarm, the toggle would turn the alarm on/off and one set of those wire is a voltage meter so the alarm would go off when it senses a voltage change. The other two are for power.

I actually think it could have something to do with a high comp pistion, not the actual piston as i said before tho it does look similar to one...... The thing that turns from min to max adjusts the compression of the piston.. min is 5:1 while the max setting is 19:1... then im pretty sure the toggle switch allows you to choose whether it runs as a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke....

It's a solid state powerband induction unit.

When it's turned on.. red light you have a powerband. When you dont want a powerband you jstu turn it off.

Hmm if it is a strobe light then I have questions... #1 was the person you bought it from dressed as a cow boy with crotchless chaps on? or perhaps a police officer? or maybe a construction worker with no shirt on just suspenders, pants and a hard hat? Perhaps he was dressed as an indian cheif, but if thats the case id have to say he smokin more than peace pipes.....
Also, does the exhaust sound like different techno beats in each gear, could be a sure sign of a need for the strobe light, perhaps the strobe goes with the beat?

09-19-2006, 04:18 PM
Well...When you roll yourquad, you go ok mr switch im going to switch you and your going to like it, after you switch it, it will eltricty the whole valve tank, gas tank, and oil box, so they do not combine, if that happens, you may have a 2 stroke on your hands, no if it turns into a 2 stroke, sugar milk eggs:bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit:

I think the reason he posted this up , was because he DIDN'T know what the part was and was looking for everyone's input .

But like a bunch have guessed and from the pictures I've posted , I think it's safe to say it's a limiter/speed control for a strobe light kit .

The only reasonable explanation of what that could be is a strobe light adjuster or alarm adjustment. That would be the only 2 that would make sense to wire to the battery unlike a CDI which does not wire directly to the battery like that. I am leaning more towards a POS strobe light adjuster, though ghetto, I have seem some crap like that at the dunes!!
