Actually I have heard that you can really mess yourself up by drinking too much water; close to passing out and dying. Something about your brain gets too much liquid or something.

I dont know how true it is but I've also heard that...I can't remember where though...

...on the other side...I've talked to a few people I know that went to Iraq and they said they PUSH you to drink water until you physically cant drink anymore... so I dont know where you would draw the line.

If you are constantly sweating I think it is alright to drink as mush as can. It's when you are sitting still, not sweating, that you aren't supposed to. It's something about your body is taking in too much fluid for the amount that is putting out.:huh

Yep, its drink drink and drink some more until you are dismissed over there.

Ive always had problems with staying hydrated. After last year and my health problems I have tried to drink all I can, but I am not sure if its helping:ermm: I cut back on soda, way way back on the little alchohol I did drink and replaced it with water and tea. Atleast I am sweating this year, I didnt sweat hardly at all leading up to my nice little stay at the hospital.

yea something about diluting your blood sodium i think... did a soldier over there die from it?

i once drank 3 miss butterworth containers of maple syrup one time when i was really drunk. heh...

I know if you drink a gallon of milk within an hour, you'll throw it all back up. Your stomach can't hold that much. Milk must have a different effect to your stomach because you didn't throw up afterwards, just peed. But I want to try the gallon of water thing, sounds like it'd be a blast at a party.

Drink some cranberry juice throughout the week, its supposedly helps stones from developing.

A buddy of mine (BIG BOY:eek2: ) had a stone hit hime 30 minutes after arriving at his hunting camp. He laid there for 4 days in severe pain. It wasnt until another hunter stopped by to see how he was doing that he was rushed in for medical care. he said he just wanted to die and couldnt move.

Im the biggest hypocrite with this stuff because i still drink too much soda, but maybe some of you young punks can learn from a stupid old dude:p

Here is a formula a doctor told me once on the amount of water you should drink a day.Take your body weight in lbs. and divide that by 2.That is the amount of water in ounces you should drink a day.Example: Say you weigh 150 pounds.Divided by 2 = 75 oz. of water a day.
I'm not saying I drink that much.................that is just what he said.

Tea is just as bad if not worse than soda. It has something to do with the acids it contains.

I forget where I saw it online but the water OD'ing and killing you is supposly when you drink more than your stomach can handle and it will over flow in to your lungs and suffocate you but you'd have to drink proboly a few gallons in a short time

um drinkin to much water can swell your brain stem

:D

tea has caffiene in it.. which if you're active the tea is over working your kidneys and you dehydrate. Like, say you drink 20oz of tea, inturn you should drink 20oz of water to balance it out if you're active. You shouldn't drink anything with caffiene if you're active, only LOTS of water and SMALL amounts of gatorade. Which is like 4 bottles of water to 1 bottle of gatorade.

Now if you're a slug and do nothing all day, then it's fine to just drink tea and the occassional soda as long as you are still drinking your 8 glasses of water a day because you're not straining your kidneys.

I drink an *** load of water a day and haven't seen a soda in months.

if you drink alot of water and you dont die you can get brain damage, cuz it makes your brain stem like metnioned above, also if your drink to much gaterade it will give you high blood pressure, i wish all i drank was water because i read on this forum before, that you should only drink water because that is what your made of and it made lot of sense. but i drink soda, ice tea, gatarade

Too much water especially when taken during strenuious activities, such as running, where you're sweating a lot can cause Hyponatremia.

Hyponatremia is where you intake too much H20 and the sodium levels in your body become diluted. This can lead to Nausia, dizzyness, headache, muscle cramps.

Severe cases can lead to seizures, coma or death. Death most often caused by a herniation of the brainstem.

All you'll ever want to know about water OD'ing.
http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic275.htm

Generally the reccomend fluid intake during extended activity is 1 cup of water every 15-20min.

Also a sports drink helps. They help counteract this by replinishing the sodium lost during sweating.
