Im wantin to re-gear 05 450r for trails and hills climbs im wantin it geared lower then it is now, it still has stock gearing. I've talked to a few other people that ride 450's and they have all said go down to 12 in the front and leave the rear stock, i was jus wonderin what u guys think i should do. thanks for the help

12 on the front is way too low IMO. I wouldn't go any lower than a 13 on the front. I run a 13-36 gearing with 20 inch tires, which makes it a little shorter than stock, but not as short as just a 13 tooth. Perfect for trailriding IMO.

i've tried

on 20"-13/38 13/39 13/36 14/36 14/38 14/39 15/38 15/36 15/39

on 18"-15/36 15/37 15/38 15/39 14/38 14/36 14/37

on 17"turftames they say 18"but its really 17"-15/36 15/37 15/38

all i can say is the more power you put into your bike, the taller you'll have to gear it,cause it will start hitting the rev limiter TOO EASY

on-20" i found 13/38-39 to be the best for trail or mx on a almost stock bike..pipe/jet kit

on 18"14/37

on17" not so stock i have to use 15/36,and i'm still pulling the rev limiter really fast..........i'm trying to find a 35 rear now

I run 13 front and 39 rear with 19in MXR4 tires.

to go along with wanta450, if you want to do hillclimbs at a nice steady speed and keep the throttle at one position i would say the 13/37 or 13/36 I run 13/36 and have found that the 13/38 for climbing is too short, u just keep revving too high and not getting as far as u would with a taller gearing, and this is all on 20"tires

When I raced my 04 and 05 I always ran 13/37 with 20" Razr rears and it had plenty of power to pull on the straights and great bottom end torque for climbing hills. Granted my motor wasn't stock by no means :D, but I also have ran this on slightly modified quads as well and it really worked well

I can see how some peaple would say 12 is to short, and it is but I love it on my er.My trails are tight and have very steep hills, heck I even took one tooth away on my CRF 450 for this reason and it's not like I did't have enough power.:D . All I can say is if it tight trails, for what there worth buy one(12) and try it. I some times if I am going out with the big boys in the mud I put my 22 mudlights on, and then I'm glad I have that 12 on there. JMO thanks.:D

When I ride trails, I just go down one tooth from stock in the front to a 13T and it works great. Not too low, and not too high of gearing, but just right. Don't have to ride the clutch nearly as much as you would with a stock 14T up front.

I run a 13/38 but I want to try a 13/36, the 13/38 was perfect when I first started out but now that I'm going faster I think a 13/36 will be perfect, plus I want a smaller rear sprockert to keep the skid plate off it:blah:
